It depends on your end goal. If you’re training for a marathon, you might work out nearly every day of the week. If you’re a low-level beginner, a minimum of three times a week is enough to make a noticeable impact. No matter what you’re working out for, everyone needs rest and recovery days. Without them, your muscles won’t be able to recuperate and grow strong, so remember to factor in some down-time, too!

This comes down to which stage you're at on your fitness journey. If you're an exercise newbie or have been out of the fitness game for a while, you should initially see your personal trainer two to three times a week. Meeting regularly with your fitness instructor means you'll develop the right technique and form, which is vital for boosting performance and preventing injury. After you've developed positive habits with your PT, you'll be able to reduce your sessions to be on a weekly or monthly basis.

This depends on your end-goal and how committed you are to your training. If you’re just trying to get into a regular fitness routine, you may only need your fitness trainer for a few months until you have developed self-motivation and positive exercise habits. If you’re running a marathon or participating in a triathlon, you might want your PT to be there every step of the way until the big event. Either way, your fitness instructor will be able to give you a clear timeframe based on your fitness level and goals.

The benefits of hiring a personal trainer are infinite! But to name just a few…

  • You’ll learn the art of planning ahead - When it comes to a successful exercise routine, planning ahead is key. A personal trainer will help you to visualise how you're going to reach your goal, breaking the process into manageable steps. Knowing what you’re working towards and how you’re going to get there is a huge motivation boost!

  • Your personal trainer will keep injuries at bay - Your instructor will prevent you from sustaining injuries by making sure your form is correct, which is especially useful if your focus is weight training and you're handling heavy equipment.

  • You will be pushed beyond your limits - Ever stopped a run or workout early, even though you know you can keep going? A personal trainer will encourage you to work a bit harder every time - switching up your fitness routine and challenging you in new and innovative ways. With exercise, there’s always room for improvement; sometimes, all it takes is someone to push you over the next hurdle.

  • You will get the praise you deserve - Our brains crave praise, so when a personal trainer is there to pat you on the back after a hard workout, you'll be encouraged to keep going - it's all down to science!

As long as you have a stable internet connection and a decent camera, then absolutely! Online personal training is one of this year's biggest fitness trends. It's also particularly handy if you're away for an extended period, or if you'd rather not travel to the gym. You can browse personal trainers on Bark and ask them if they offer their services online - plenty of them do!
