Jane Bowns Guitar Tuition

South Yorkshire

I am an established, experienced guitar teacher, offering private tuition in classical/Spanish, acoustic, electric and bass guitar. I teach all styles and levels, from beginner to advanced, and all ages welcome- from very young children to adults. I teach from a purpose built teaching room at home, during weekdays, Mon-Fri. I provide a reliable, welcoming and encouraging teaching environment, where pupils can choose themselves if they would like to sit exams, or simply learn to play for fun. I have also taught guitar and bass guitar in several local schools, at both primary and secondary level. I can teach both standard music notation and guitar and bass TAB. I learned to play guitar myself from a young age, and was taught by several of the best private teachers in Sheffield. I completed Grade 8 level on both classical and bass guitar, and also completed GCSE and A Level music, as well as studying music at university level. I set up my teaching business at the age of eighteen, gradually growing and establishing it over the years. I continued to study music further through university courses and gained performing experience playing in local bands and gigging. I specialise in teaching young children, retired adults and complete beginners. I also am fully DBS checked. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I can now offer video lessons online, via Zoom or FaceTime.

What do you love most about your job?

I love meeting pupils and establishing a good rapport in lessons. I enjoy encouraging and helping pupils of all levels, abilities and ages to explore their interest in playing the guitar. It’s rewarding to see pupils gain in confidence as they develop new skills. I also love that many of my pupils have lessons for several years and I often get to know or teach other members of their families, too.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I always loved music and playing different types of guitar myself, starting from the age of seven. My hobby gradually developed into a deeper interest, as I practiced more and more, kept improving, passing exams and performing in bands. I had private lessons myself growing up and was taught by the best teachers in my area. They encouraged and inspired me to start teaching and I received lots of helpful advice when I was first starting out.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have lots of patience and always strive to be relaxed, welcoming and encouraging. I structure my lessons around each pupil individually and let them learn at their own pace, instead of insisting on just one approach for everyone. I emphasise playing for enjoyment and I’m happy for pupils to choose if they want to sit exams or simply play for fun. I also specialise in teaching very young children and complete beginners.

I am also fully CRB checked.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I can now offer video lessons online, via either Zoom or FaceTime.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I have a purpose built teaching room at home on the ground floor, so pupils don’t need to enter the main heart of my home and are quite separate. I provide hand sanitizer when arriving and leaving and also sit further apart in lessons. Everything gets thoroughly cleaned at the end of each teaching session.

I’m also more than happy for pupils to wear face masks during lessons, if they prefer.

As well as lessons in person, I now also offer video lessons online, via Zoom and FaceTime.

I have received both of my COVID-19 vaccines and take part in regular self testing.
