What kind of accounting services do you provide?

I provide Payroll Services for any business of any size and any payrun frequency.
I provide Bookkeeping Services (including VAT returns) for Sole Traders/Partnerships/Ltd Companies with turnovers up to £3m.
I provide Accounts Preparation and Tax Returns for Sole Traders/Partnerships/Ltd Companies with turnovers up to £3m.

Why is it so important for businesses to hire a great accountant?

My idea of a great Accountant is one that is a member of a professional body, has a licence to perform services, has an Anti Money Laundering Supervisor, and has the necessary business insurances. If an Accountant has these in place you near enough guarantee (certainly true in my case) they will ensure your Accounts are accurate, returns are done on time and there is nothing extra to do which greatly reduces your stress and means you can focus on your business and helping it grow.
If you do not hire a great Accountant there is a higher risk of returns/submissions sent late or not at all, a higher risk of paying that Accountant but then paying another Accountant at a later date to complete the work that the previous Accountant was supposed to complete, and greater stress levels from all the extra unnecessary work you now need to do.

What do you love most about your job?

Seeing everything add up as it should and having clients contact me to say they have never felt so stress free about Accounts and Finance and they feel so much better just being able to focus on their business and not have to worry.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Accounting runs in my family with my Grandad formerly being an Accountant before retirement and my Uncle being a Finance Director for a well know Motor Group. After owning my own business as a Personal Trainer for 13 years I decided to step away and have a career change. After completing the necessary qualifications and licences etc I needed, it was the only logical step to start a new business for myself to now help other businesses grow and take the stress away from others that I had for 13 years as a PT.

Why should our clients choose you?

Quite simply, I treat your business's finances as if they were my own. Your business isn't just a statistic on a spreadsheet to me, I go above and beyond to help because if your business succeeds then I succeed either from increased revenue or from referrals. I feel it's vitally important to have a good working relationship with clients and they know they can approach me any query and I will do my best for them.

The title 'Chartered Accountant' and the letters ACA or FCA, indicates that the person has undertaken a minimum of three years in-depth training, passed a series of examinations in financial management, auditing, business strategy and taxation as well as committing to continuing professional development.

As opposed to specialising in tax returns, a Chartered Accountant instead will focus on providing accurate records of all financial transactions for an individual or business. Consequently, this type of accountant is more likely to be found employed in a more commercial capacity.

Hiring the right Accountant for your business may take a bit of time. Who you choose to look after your accounts is vital, especially if you have plans to expand as you will need to look for someone who will get more involved in the financial side of things the bigger your company gets.

  • Research - Start with the company’s website and look at the accounting services they offer with an eye on what you might need in the future. If you choose an accountancy firm that doesn’t have the expertise to help you as your business expands, you will end up needing to finding another accountant.

  • Create a shortlist - Create a shortlist of three or four firms you
think are a good fit and arrange face-to-face meetings with all of
them. In addition to the fees, you need to find out about the
services they provide, as well as their customer services.

  • Fees - Some Accountants charge by the hour while others operate on a fixed-fee basis. You need to be clear before selecting an Accountant for your business on how their fees are calculated.

  • Qualifications - It is important to ask questions about the
qualifications and experience of the people who would be dealing with your accounts. You need to know that you could work with them, trust that they are on your side and are continually looking for ways of
adding financial value to your company.

  • Accounting software - You will want to check that any systems you use are familiar to the accounting firm. Your current method of financial reporting may not be the most effective one for your business and they may recommend systems that can do it better.

  • Financial jargon - If you are not an expert on finance, your Accountant needs to understand this and be able to communicate with you in a clear and concise manner.

You can be confident that any of the Accountants listed on Bark will be a safe pair of hands for your finances.
