Magicians for hire - weddings, parties and events

Finding a magician can be quite a specialist task. We help you to find suitable magicians based near you who can perform for guests at a children’s party, wedding, or other events.

From illusionist to tarot, we can provide quotes from magicians of all varieties.

Choosing the right Magician

How much is a Magician?

So, how much does a magician cost for a birthday party? Do they charge more for certain events? A magician isn’t an everyday service so it can be hard to know what costs to expect.

There is no standard price and it can vary hugely depending on the skills, availability, and location of the magician in question.

Types of Magician

  • Sleight of hand - These sorts of magicians rely a lot on card tricks and the sort of magic tricks you would expect in a small party environment rather than on a big scale with a stage and lots of props.
  • Illusionists - Think of the sort of shows that leave you wondering “how did they do that?”. “Sawing” an assistant in half is an example of an illusion. They often have big stage setups.
  • Children’s Magician - Nothing too heavy. These are the sort of magicians that are fantastic for children’s parties, they tend to have a good rapport with children and plenty of fun and light-hearted tricks. The adults might work out the tricks, but most children will be spellbound.
  • Comedy Magician - Half stand-up comedian, half magician, these are a great choice for getting the guests at a party or wedding involved and having a laugh while being wowed!

How do I check the Magician’s credentials?

Magicians come from a variety of backgrounds, so it can be hard to check their credentials. However, there are a number of different performance guilds as well as prestigious membership clubs such as The Magic Circle. A true magic specialist will probably have a membership to these sorts of organisations so keep an eye out for those who advertise that they are part of a magician’s guild.

In the modern age, you can check a lot about the magician before you employ their services. For example, you can check if they have a YouTube page where you might even be able to watch their magic show and see them in action. Online reviews and testimonials are also a very good way to check that other customers vouch for their skills.

How long have you been interested in magic?

I have been a professional magician for many, many years. I guess that means I bring a great deal of experience to my shows!

I specialize in both stand-up (cabaret) and close-up / mix-and-mingle magic -entertaining both children, family, adult, and corporate audiences.

I have entertained at birthdays, dinners, garden parties, product launches, film premieres, schools, christenings, bar-mitzvahs and weddings. In 2012 I presented my first public stage show “Mind and Magic” at the Leicester Square Theatre in the heart of London’s West End, and since have had two other one-man shows (“Unbelievable”, and “Something Fishy”) at the same theatre. In addition, I have entertained with close-up magic as part of the World Stars of Magic show, in Las Vegas, USA, headlined shows at The Magic Circle, and presented a lecture there for my peers. I have also worked as magical advisor on films, tutored other magicians in their craft, and organised and provided other entertainers for a host of events. Phew!

Take us through your show – what can we expect?

That depends - my magic shows for children parties, adult birthdays, and corporate cabarets are all very different.

If you head to my website (www.timbarnes.biz) you'll get a flavour of all of these, plus a lot of pictures and testimonials too.

What do you love most about your job?

I love bringing a sense of wonder -whether this is you youngsters seeing magic for the first time, teenagers who see magic as just a challenge, or corporate audiences who are often surrounded by a breadth of other distractions.

The reactions that I get, and the letters/emails that often follow reassure me that my magic has helped them to have a very special and memorable day, and that I’ve done my job!

What inspired you to start your own business?

Is not entertaining by magic the best job in the world?

Why should our clients choose you?

I bring many years of experience, and are blessed that many families, companies and other organisations hire me to return year after year. I entertained one family on 15 occasions as their 5 children are older, and their neighbours on 15 occasions! I have presented a cabaret show for a church 'Light Party' in South London for 17 years in a row, entertained at a Fun Day in West London for 10 consecutive years, and provided close-up magic at a 'residency' in North London for since 2009.

Hopefully this is the best testimonial. But however many shows I present, I know that every event is different, unique, and very special. I won't be the cheapest magician you could hire, as there are plenty of youngsters (and olders) just starting out, but I work as hard as I can to be the very best

...oh, and I also have a white rabbit!

Magicians won’t give much away - that’s the nature of their job after all! But one thing you should be certain of when hiring a magician is whether they’ll be worth your money. The best way to assess your magician’s ability and skill is by viewing their website or Bark profile. Most magicians will have video examples of their tricks to showcase the best they have to offer. Always remember to check their reviews, as genuine customers will give an honest assessment of their work. It’s quick and simple to read reviews of professionals on Bark - just head over to their Bark profile and have a read!

As magicians work with the general public every day, it’s important that they have insurance to cover them in the case that anything goes wrong. It’s a good idea to ask for their insurance details before committing to a booking so that you can rest assured that you’ll be safe in their hands.

As the name suggests, a close-up magician will perform a variety of tricks up close - just inches away from their audience. This adds to the allure and surprise as you’ll be left wondering how the magician managed to pull the trick off literally in front of your eyes. Close-up magicians usually circulate around the room to perform tricks on smaller groups, making for an immersive experience.
