I’m Brian and I am a qualified coach who specialises in supporting people who are feeling lost, overwhelmed by change or stuck in their careers. I specialise in working with people who are looking to make changes in their working lives. With over 20 years of experience working in HR and training, I have a wealth of professional experience of top of my coaching skills. I love helping others find their purpose and fulfil their career aspirations. My approach is different from traditional careers advice. I focus on helping you to recognise your strengths and to tune into the inner voice that has guided you through life. I use a methodology that will give you the tools required to work out a plan for your future, be motivated to stick to it and overcome beliefs that hold you back. I offer a free, no-obligation, ‘discovery call’ that gives you the experience of being coached by me. You may get enough from the call to help with your immediate issue. You may decide that coaching isn’t for you, or it may be the first small, low-risk step towards the change you want to have in your life. Please get in touch to find out how I can help you.
I love being able to make a difference to others! People who seek coaching are looking for support with an aspect of their lives which is unsatisfactory. Coaching is different from therapy or counselling in that it focuses on the future, and my role as a coach is to help my clients articulate what they want in the future and to take practical steps in order to get there. Working alongside people to help them take steps towards their goal and seeing the changes that they have made as a result is enormously satisfying.
My background is in HR and learning and development and I have worked with some inspiring coaches and trainers who I have learned a lot from. I trained with The Coaching Academy, the UK's largest coach training organisation and completed my training in 2017. I started the Beeston Coach in 2019 and have grown the business significantly in 2020 by supporting people who have been faced with career change challenges in difficult circumstances. Having been through several career changes myself I have personal experience of going through restructuring, reorganisations and redundancy.
Choosing the right coach can be hard. It is a very personal choice. For that reason, I always offer a free 'discovery' call which gives potential customers the experience of being coached by me. At the start of the coaching process, I offer a DISC profile, a simply psychometric report that is simple to understand yet can be a powerful tool to understand yourself and to help you set goals that are right for you. The methodology I use is designed to get you to develop a plan for your future. Once your plan is in place, I can provide a software package, 'The Curve'., that you can use to track and monitor your progress over the next year. This, along with regular 'check-ins' will hold you to account and improve your chances of success. I am one of only a handful of coaches in the UK who can offer this service.
How much do Life Coaches cost?
Your professional life coach will be able to advise you on the full range of coaching available and will be able to help you select the best one to suit your needs. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a trusted life coach today.
How many sessions with a Life Coach will I need?
You can have as many or as few life coaching sessions as you like. Many life coaches operate over the phone or via the internet so the sessions can easily fit around your schedule. Some people hire a life coach once every few months, some people have a session once a week.
What happens during a Life Coaching session?
Life coaching sessions will typically last up to an hour. Often after an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted over the phone, face to face, over email, via Skype/Zoom and occasionally through instant messaging.
During the session, your life coach will ask you a number of questions, such as what you want to achieve in life, what areas you're unhappy with and where you'd like to see yourself in the future. Although a life coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have to help you move forward with your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don't feel comfortable with and all sessions will be confidential.
What is the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy?
Life coaching is focused on your present and your future. Coaching accepts your current reality and looks to improve your outcome moving forward. Life coaches are not health professionals and they do not diagnose you. By contrast, therapy focuses on your past and looks to delve into past actions and patterns. It is analytical but not action-oriented.
Does insurance pay for a Life Coach?
Most mainstream health insurance providers do not cover the costs of life coaching because it is not considered a mental health profession in the same way therapists and counsellors are.
What should I look for in a Life Coach?
Life coaches do not need to have any formal or academic qualifications but you may want to look for life coaches who possess an industry-specific qualification, such as the Life Coaching Diploma or Personal Performance Diploma (PPD).
You may also want to ask for testimonials of their recent work. You could also look at their profile page on Bark, which shows you reviews from past customers who have used their life coaching services.
What does a Life Coach do for you?
A life coach is a trained professional who aims to help and guide individuals to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. They support clients on a journey to rediscover their own strength and abilities. This can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring your potential, managing health conditions and achieving life ambitions.
By harnessing techniques based on core psychological principles and intuition, life coaches empower clients and provide a toolkit of teachings to confidently face difficult challenges and overcome emotional barriers.
Life coaches can specialise in one of these particular areas of coaching: career coaching, executive business, group coaching, health and wellbeing, performance management, personal development, relationships, retirement, spiritual and youth coaching.
How do I find the right Life Coach?
Rapport is one of the most important parts of life coaching. If you feel uncomfortable with your professional, you are unlikely to gain much from the session. It is advisable to get in contact before you book a session to meet your life coach so you can gauge how comfortable you are in their presence. It is worth talking to a few potential life coaches and ask questions.
Can I get a Life Coach online?
Yes! As long as you have a strong internet connection, then your life coach can deliver sessions via an online video chat platform. Alternatively, it can be done over the phone.
