What do you love most about your job?

The best thing about working in the private domestic sector is the variety - every job and every client is different from the last - so every project we do is new and exciting every time.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Architecture is what we have both done since we enrolled on the undergraduate course at Liverpool School of Architecture in 2008 where we first crossed paths. Twelve years later we enjoy doing what we do more than ever before, architecture is not just a career but a way of thinking and looking at the world around us, always thinking 'how could we do that better?' Since 2014 we have both worked for separate practices in the North-West, working closely on projects from residential house extensions and new build homes, to railway station refurbishments and airport infrastructure. With a combined experience of over ten years, starting a practice based on a shared set of values and a passion for great design has long been something we have discussed doing. SO Architects is a culmination of this experience and a natural step for us both to take. We want to select the projects that we work on and bring new ideas to the table on every project, because every job is unique and interesting in its own way.

Why should our clients choose you?

We know that it is very normal for a client not to always have a clear vision of exactly what it is that they want, but that is where we come in. Our approach to every project is highly responsive and tailored to each and every client's needs. We will help you to realise your vision, forming a solid brief and concept, before guiding you as far as you need through the rest of the process - whether it is applying for planning, navigating building regulations or providing a full project management service through to handover and completion, we will be with you every step of the way.

Your expert architectural services firm will be able to help make the changes you are looking for or create a new build. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a qualified architect today.

Here are some aspects that are important to consider when opting for an architectural services firm. It is important that the architect is registered and provide you with a portfolio of work with recent images. It is also recommended to complete a site visit where the architect might point out the particular features of that project.

Architects need to monitor the project throughout so it is also important that they have a good working relationship with experienced contractors.

Some architectural services firms only do international work. If you have a small project, you might want to consider a small firm that can give you its full attention.

A side return extension is considered to be permitted development (PD). It does not need planning permission as long as the extension is within two metres of a boundary and the maximum eaves height is no higher than three metres.

Architectural services firms can provide complete drawing and design services, submit planning applications, check building regulations, undertake Structural Engineer calculations for loft conversions, extensions, internal alterations and new builds.

Architects also manage the entire process with the local authorities and should keep clients informed of the progress of their application along the way.
