FAQs

How much do Architects cost?

Hiring an architectural services firm is a great investment as it can help increase the value of your home.

The cost will vary not according to the size of your extension and new rooms but how many floors are being changed or added.

Costs will normally include the design advice, on-site survey, professional CAD drawings, drawing amendments, planning applications and planning revisions.

Your expert architectural services firm will be able to help make the changes you are looking for or create a new build. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a qualified architect today.

What should I consider before choosing an Architectural Services firm?

Here are some aspects that are important to consider when opting for an architectural services firm. It is important that the architect is registered and provide you with a portfolio of work with recent images. It is also recommended to complete a site visit where the architect might point out the particular features of that project.

Architects need to monitor the project throughout so it is also important that they have a good working relationship with experienced contractors.

Some architectural services firms only do international work. If you have a small project, you might want to consider a small firm that can give you its full attention.

Your local professional should work with you on your creative ideas and ensure that you get the best value for money for your budget.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local architectural services companies listed will help you build your dream home and give you peace of mind.

How long will an Architectural project take?

A building project might take just six months or a couple of years to complete. Make sure you choose an architecture firm that you will be comfortable working with for the long term.

You may meet an architect you like in the initial meeting phase but when the project gets underway, you may be working more closely with a different colleague. Make sure you know which individuals you will be working with throughout your project.

Do you need planning permission for a side return?

A side return extension is considered to be permitted development (PD). It does not need planning permission as long as the extension is within two metres of a boundary and the maximum eaves height is no higher than three metres.

What should I look for in an Architectural Services firm?

Architects need to be fully qualified which involves five years at a university recognised by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and have completed a minimum of two years’ practical experience.

Most architects then apply for Chartered Membership from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

What can Architects help with?

Architectural services firms can provide complete drawing and design services, submit planning applications, check building regulations, undertake Structural Engineer calculations for loft conversions, extensions, internal alterations and new builds.

Architects also manage the entire process with the local authorities and should keep clients informed of the progress of their application along the way.

What do you love most about your job?

I love working alongside homeowners and small business owners as I get to meet new people, in new places and on a variety of projects.

What inspired you to start your own business?

During the last 12 months of working full time, I realised that working on large industrial and commercial projects day in, day out wasn't really for me. Being out of the house for over 12 hours a day in all weathers wasn't really my idea of fun. Although I still offer site based services, the bulk of my work is now drawing building plans which enables me to work around a growing family.

Why should our clients choose you?

If you are looking to extend your home or small business premises then I'd love you to get in touch for a chat. I have an eye for detail, especially where sympathetic design is required. I do have a soft spot for being traditional but if it's something a little more wacky that you're looking for then I'd still like to get my teeth into it!
Coming from a construction engineering background, I am able to ensure that my designs are not only beautiful but easily built as far as possible. I have a good working relationship with some great structural engineers and drainage consultants, this often saves my clients a lot of time as they only have one point of contact.
