Form Fitness

We are two qualified level 3 personal trainers, Rob & Iggy. We have our own 1-2-1 fitness studio based in Crystal Palace. We also offer online, outdoor and at home training/coaching as per our clients needs. We cater to all our clients needs such as weight loss, muscle gain and/or cardio. We want our clients to have fun and learn new movements, achieve their fitness goals and fix their muscular imbalances. We also work on any chronic stiffness or aches, specifically in the knees, hips and back, helping our clients to improve any postural issues they may have. Through a mix of gymnastic strength training, barbell workouts, HIIT training and body weight/calisthenics movements we aim to help our clients achieve their goals. Importantly, we ensure that throughout their training they protect their bodies and become stronger and better movers. Our fitness programs and exercise selections scale to all ages and abilities. We are very flexible with our availability to train clients throughout the week and weekend. Please get in contact - we would love to start helping you achieve your fitness goals! The most certain way to get in touch is via email or mobile, as there is a charge to respond via bark. Thanks!

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

First we start by finding out our clients goals through a free consultation and fitness assessment. The next step is to work with the client to make these goals SMART. What I mean by that is goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time sensitive. Research has shown that SMART goals are much more effective and motivating.

Once the clients SMART goals have been established, we develop a starting programme using our expertise, that will A. help the client achieve their short term goals and B. build a base level of strength, stability and mobility that will allow the client to continue making fitness gains as their goals develop and change in the medium to long term.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

Rob - First and foremost, I would discourage clients from beginning their fitness journey from a point of view of disliking their bodies the way that they are. Clients should know that whatever they can achieve in the gym is good enough for where they are starting.

In terms of building a body of your dreams, that is different for every individual. For me, a body of my dreams is one that will allow me to continue to play sports and exercising into my 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond - one that will continue to allow me to express myself.

Iggy - Personally I beleive the secret is consistency and fun. Your workouts should excite you and make you feel positive and confident in your self and your ability to develop by learning new movements and incrementally adding weight to exercises. However, we need to be constantly setting goals, short, medium and long term, to keep us consistent and make fitness a habit, a part of our identity. The perfect body, whether that be aesthetic, functional or athletic based on the subjectivity of the indivudal, is also as much a mental goal as it is a physical one.

What do you love most about your job?

Rob - I love helping people achieve their ambitions, and I love working with people. The great appeal of personal training is that you're dealing with real people every day, constantly moving, and discovering new ways of training. In that sense, its a job that engages both your empathy and creativity.

Iggy - I love helping people progress in movements they that they thought would not be possible, whether that be a pain-free squat or their first pull up, I relish the challenge to fufill my clients goals. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching and helping my clients develop their own confidence and knowledge that they can apply and take outside of our sessions. On another note, I love our 1-2-1 studio and the unique space myself and Robert built for a range of needs and training programmes.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Rob - I have a very unusual journey into personal training. From the ages of 16 to 23 I had chronic knee pain due to a knee dislocation that occurred at a music festival (and several more down the road). I'd all but given up on many of the things I wanted to do fitness wise. I couldn't run or play football, and squatting was painful to even think about. Eventually, I was able to beat my chronic pain through targeting the muscles around my knee, as well as the supporting muscles used in standing, walking and running, and ensuring I did them in a scalable way so that I wasn't making my pain worse. This recovery made me realise what exercise can do for people and their lives, and inspired me to become a PT.

Iggy - Fitness and exercise have always been a part of my identity since I played basketball from 11 years old. Playing at county and University level I have always read widely and educated myself within the fitness world to better my training. However, from 19-23yrs old I experienced a physcial set back with Jumpers/Runners Knee. During lockdown me and Robert trained outdoors at a local park with calisthenics, gymnastic rings and knee specific exercises to help correct our knee issues and become more consistent with fitness. In the last 2 years after successfully alleviating our knee issues and building a good level of strength, we realised that it made sense to teach our passion for exercise to the community. We built our studio to try help people reconnect with fitness in a fun way . We also want to bring beginners into an exercise environment that gives them confidence in their movement, fixes any postural and muscular imbalances brought on by extended periods of sitting and helps them achieve their own specific goals!

Why should our clients choose you?

Rob - what we offer here is a bit of everything, using proven and effective models. If you want to improve your mobility, we offer training that focuses on moving the joints in a full range of motion in a scalable way, pain-free. If you want to gain muscle, we apply a fitness model that will get you lifting heavy the right way, without injuring yourself and setting you back. If you just want to look good and feel confident in yourself, we know exactly what muscles to train and how. If you want something in between, our programmes are 100% tailored to our clients needs and ambition.

Iggy - We will help you achieve your goals in the short and medium term while always protecting the longevity of your health in the long term. We strive to develop confident and strong movers, that become knowledgable in their training and excited about their routines. Our attention to good form and fitness practices is a crucial part of our coaching but most of all we want you to have fun! Exercise is challenging, but we will find a way to scale and regress exercises to whatever ability or fitness background you may have, and make sure you enjoy the process. Exercise should be a habit and in the end, part of our identity, something we can all be proud of based on any ability or previous injury. I want to help you reach your goals and teach you important skills and good practice along the way that you can take with you after our sessions!

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Iggy - I can provide monthly online programming through a free app where you can workout to our personalised training programmes which includes form videos to help you complete the exercises properly and to the best of your ability. You can leave your rep/set count and any notes you may have for us after each exercise. We will respond to your workouts within 24hrs with feedback and advice on your form!

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We have masks on hand for our clients if they wish to use them and always provide anti-bacterial hand gel at the studio. All equipment is cleaned after each session and we always try to keep our balcony doors open (weather permitting) to keep a good circulation of fresh air into the studio. We also believe it is best for our clients to train with a view of the outdoors, trees and a lovely garden.
