Home care is supportive care provided by a healthcare professional in the patient’s individual home. It is an alternative to community care settings like nursing homes or clinics. Home care is also referred to as in-home care or domiciliary care. Home care is provided for people who may struggle to look after themselves on their own, due to reasons such as old age, injury, or disability.

The cost for home care services depends on where you live and the frequency of care required. For a better idea of how much you'll pay based on your circumstances, read our handy price guide.

Palliative care is specialised care for people living with a serious illness. Support is focused around making sure the patient is as comfortable as possible by reducing pain and stress. While some patients receive palliative care at a nursing home or group accommodation, some people prefer to receive it from their own home so that they can be around familiar surroundings and memories. This is known as palliative care at home.
