Registered dietitians are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat dietary problems or nutritional needs. They also tend to help clients with special dietary requirements or medical conditions. To be a dietitian, you’ve got to be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Many dietitians work within the NHS as opposed to privately, although you can still find private dietitians to help advise you on your eating habits. Whereas nutritionists are more likely to be the ones advising on weight loss or sport nutrition. Nutritionists can be registered with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN), but they don't have to be.
To become qualified as a nutritionist, I had to complete a course run by the UKVRN. After completing the course, I became qualified as a registered nutritionist. This means that all my clients can check my qualifications and experience online. Clients can therefore be confident in my abilities, as they know that I'm qualified under a trustworthy organisation.
Weight loss is the most common reason that new clients come to me. They often find it difficult to know how to get the right nutrients into their diets without feeling hungry or unsatisfied. But over the last few years, I’ve had more and more people coming to me with IBS-related issues. I think that's because more people are recognising the symptoms of IBS and are getting diagnosed. They then come to nutritionists or dietitians for guidance on how to alter their eating habits to help relieve their symptoms.

I started working with Brian to lose weight and get my blood sugar into normal ranges. After my initial 5 weeks I have lost 12 pounds and am having much better blood sugar levels. His knowledge of carbs and how they affect blood sugar has been a tremendous benefit. He doesn’t ask a client to do exercise and activities that are too strenuous for a person based on their current fitness. I am learning how much too eat as well as what to eat. He is very responsive and will engage with your spouse to achieve support in achieving goals and keeping you honest. He is a person you can have honest and serious discussions about regarding your diet and decisions. Definitely a recommend from me based on his responsiveness and his input regarding how you can add interesting food choices to keep things from becoming boring.
