The Problem It is not uncommon for a commercial or residential organization or individual to know it needs a project, but not clear on how best to start…or worse yet, to launch into the design process without carefully establishing the groundwork. Just as you would not expect your doctor to prescribe a medication for you without first diagnosing your illness, likewise it is very risky to begin design without first establishing your project’s unique objectives and parameters. It is for this reason that we have developed the Project Strategy Review, a necessary first step to establishing the basis of your project. The Promise The Project Strategy Review will allow you to fully understand the requirements, constraints, and potential roadblocks for your project. It will minimize your risk of faulty design decisions by laying the proper groundwork up front. It will allow you to create the proper foundation, saving money in the long run. It will allow you to explore your goals in a structured format. It helps us determine if this working relationship is a fit for both parties before fully committing to further design services. The Process The Project Strategy Review is a structured “smart design process” that provides a registered architect’s opinion on the feasibility of your project. David Crawford, the region’s leading commercial Design & Build Architect, will advise you on the potential opportunities and risks of your project and includes the following: We will discuss your preliminary objectives. We will develop an outline brief describing functions, uses, spaces and the required “look and feel”. We will outline energy conservation and sustainability advantages. We will review potential building/site options/solutions and identify Planning/Zoning/Code issues in outline form. We will prepare a conceptual budget. We will prepare a preliminary schedule. Outcome: a Project Strategy Review Report that you can use to get an accurate proposal from us - it is yours to keep. An Example A major organization on the East Coast believed nearby markets represented opportunities to provide needed services. Our initial engagement helped them determine the best use of a site, what type of facility should be there, what groups might also want space, how to attract and "keep" high quality employees and how to use a tailored development process to lease to third parties portions of the facility. This groundwork led to on-schedule and on-budget design and construction of facilities, which were so successful that this system initiated multiple phases for five years. We provide a RODI - a "Return on the Design Investment" that help a client's Brand expand, attract and keep high quality customers and employees. The Investment The investment for the Project Strategy Review is inclusive of the initial local site visit and follow-up meeting. If you would like to discuss this further or set an appointment to begin the process, please call me at 856.866.0018, x 102, or email me at d•••••@••••.com.

What inspired you to start your own business?

While I am new to IT, I’m not new to Smart Architecture. This philosophy evolved from my first discovery of architecture.
When I was a young man, my family purchased a single family house built during the early 60’s that was partially imbedded in the South side of a hill and clad in stone taken from the excavation. However, the interior didn’t function properly. I developed design sketches as well as alternates. After sitting down with my Father to explain these “wonderful” ideas, he smiled and said I could do any one of them as long as I didn’t spend any money – my first lesson in Smart Architecture !
Over the years my Smart Architecture experience in design and construction has evolved many times over. It has included physically constructing simple commercial buildings and sites where actually putting together the elements teaches what does and doesn’t work effectively. While Buildings are the major component of my architectural life, site engineering all types of sites, mountainside to beach front, connected building parts to grading, utilities, storm water management, building placement and parking - all orchestrated to fit local regulations – and the final cap – fit a budget and generate a profit. After designing and managing contract development for multistory buildings, I began to see that Smart Architecture is scalable and transferable to all sizes/types of projects. However, just as technology and the science of building has evolved so has Smart Architecture been enhanced.
