We spoke to landscaping expert William George from George’s Gardens about the most flattering fire pit designs and tips for choosing or building the perfect fire pit for your outdoor space.

There’s nothing greater than stepping back from a project you’ve been working on for weeks and then seeing it in its full glory. Being able to provide an environment where bees can flourish and areas for kids to be able to play is one of the best ways I could possibly spend my time. I also love having regular gardens that I see every week or so. You develop a connection with them and it’s spectacular to watch the annual cycles.
I have a postgraduate diploma in garden design and a selection of diplomas covering Forestry and Arboriculture. I am fully certified in the use of chainsaws, the ethical use of pesticides, and wood chippers. I have completed apprenticeships in forestry, nursery practice, and garden maintenance. In the past, I have worked for the council and private gardening businesses before setting up on my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I couldn’t be happier with the work Matt and his colleague Jo did on our boundary hedge and trees. From start to finish, the service was outstanding. The quote was well within our budget and, when compared objectively with several others, extremely fair and very reasonable. They arrived bang on time at 8am, despite freezing -2°C conditions, and worked tirelessly throughout the entire day to achieve a truly excellent result. The job involved trimming and clearing a challenging mix of ivy, conifer and an elder tree on both sides and on top, reducing the height and width while carefully maintaining privacy and allowing plenty of light for both gardens. The end result is exactly what we hoped for: a neat, slim, beautifully boxed-up hedge with a well-balanced, clean, square shape. Everything was cut precisely as agreed, and all waste was cleared and disposed of thoroughly. What really stood out was their attitude and professionalism. Matt and his work mate Jo were extremely polite, positive, and helpful throughout the day. Their work ethic was genuinely admirable, and when I asked for a few areas to be fine-tuned, they were more than happy to do so without hesitation. This was a demanding job done to a very high standard, and the results speak for themselves. I honestly couldn’t recommend Matt and his colleague more highly: reliable, hardworking, skilled, and a pleasure to deal with. We’re absolutely delighted with the outcome.
