Antony Nelson

Hello I'm Antony! What set's me apart from other gardening companies? Well I have a degree in Garden Design and I am horticulturally trained and I have a genuine love of gardening and gardens. I run my own thriving residential gardening club on the estate where I live near London Fields called Bethnal Green Fingers. (Check us out on Instagram). What I am not is your 'mowers and blowers' type of gardener. In fact I have made the decision not to have a vehicle or any mechanical tools and generally I like my garden work to be within walking distance, or a short bike or bus journey from E2. My ideal client would be someone who also appreciates their own green space and they need my occasional trained help to manage it and fulfill its potential. I also take an interest in biodiversity and sustainability and like the idea of enriching gardens to attract pollinators and wildlife. I have my own Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance and always work in a safe manner.

What do you love most about your job?

I really like the positive impact I can have to the quality of an outdoor space and the joy it brings to people.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always loved gardening and spend many hours a week running my own community gardening club as a volunteer. I have for many years worked as a Landscape Architect but now seek a reconnection to gardening and horticulture.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am horticulturally trained and a conscious gardener. I wish to only take on projects and gardens where I feel the client also has a real interest in their own outdoor space and I am there to help in anyway I can. I deliberately do not own a vehicle and like to keep things as local and sustainable as possible. That might exclude from some types of gardening jobs, but I would like to think makes me qualified and right for other types of gardens and clients.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I am happy to provide advice online and also conduct research and ordering of planting online, but generally my services needs physical interaction.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I have always been guided by the government rules on Covid. This includes keeping a minimum safe distance from people, carrying my own hand sanitiser and by and large keeping outdoors!

  • Garden clearance - They can also assist with garden clearance as having a messy garden can really lessen the appeal of your home both to yourself and to visitors. A well-maintained garden can also increase the value of your home.

  • Garden advice - Some companies offer gardening consultation services to advise on suitable new plants and changes that you would implement yourself.

  • Landscaping - landscape gardeners can also offer hard landscaping services such as laying new patios, new decking, new turf for a lawn or building garden buildings such as sheds and bike storage areas.

You could look for gardeners with diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor degrees or certificates in horticulture, landscape design or garden design. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is the UK’s leading gardening charity and runs specialist gardening courses for basic and advanced level gardeners.
