‘20 Certificate of Excellence

3Fs Personal Training specialises in working with people online, many of our clients are in their 50s, 60s and 70s. We offer online remote personal training via Zoom. If you train with us one-on-one at least once a week then you can attend our twice weekly online exercise classes for no extra charge. These run Monday & Thursday at 11am. If you cannot attend the live 40-minute class, a recording is emailed out the following morning. We have a specialist qualification to work with older adults, and the majority of our clients are in their 50s, 60s and 70s. I'm 55 myself, and very much enjoy working with clients who are focused on the health benefits from regular exercise. My 3Fs Personal Training partner Andy Ovenden is 52. In 2020, I published my first book; How 2 Get Fit 4 Later Life, a fitness and nutrition guide for people aged 60 and above. 5 STAR TESTIMONIALS Gav is fab! Gav is an excellent motivating and positive personal trainer...he helped me completely reverse my diabetes and that is no small feat as I was a doctor dreading the onset of the disease. Your goal becomes his goal and I cannot recommend him enough. Rageni Sangha, Brighton. Gav is a great trainer! I had 3 or 4 injuries that had been preventing me from doing too much at all. Gav was very thorough and spoke with my physio before he would work with me so that he knew exactly what he was dealing with. We then started slowly and cautiously and it wasn't long before my confidence and my strength were growing. I was struggling to feel motivated and thought what might make it worse was if someone came and started shouting at me (like some reality TV trainer). However, Gav is extremely encouraging, motivating and helpful without needing to do that! He brings a fresh workout sheet each week and leaves me with a post workout feedback sheet to keep a check on injuries. I highly recommend him! Sue Prince, Rottingdean Just the kind of training we needed. Gav’s training sessions are pitched perfectly for us. My wife and I aren’t the most natural or enthusiastic exercisers but we knew we needed to get into a better, healthier routine, motivated by someone who would push us without getting all sergeant-major-like. We also wanted the sessions to be fun, a weekly date in our diary that we’d actually look forward to – and, yes, they genuinely are. Our training programme has been carefully devised to suit our personal needs – taking into account our ages, our lifestyles, our fitness levels, our goals, any injuries etc. It's a long way from the one-size-fits-all approach you often encounter elsewhere. If you're looking to shape up (particularly if, like us, you're in a somewhat more, erm, senior age bracket), we can’t imagine a better motivator. We've been with Gav now for the best part of a year and feel fitter and more energised than we’ve felt in ages. M & J Ward, Brighton Gavin is absolutely brilliant Gavin is absolutely brilliant. He really knows what he’s doing and has been central to my return to fitness. It had been a long while since I had done any formal exercise and he built a programme that reflected that. He is incredibly knowledgeable but makes it all accessible. I like the variety in the sessions - we mix things up with different pieces of equipment and changes in emphasis. And he’s a genuine and very pleasant person to be with. I wholeheartedly recommend him. Jo Redfern, Brighton Personal Training at its best Gav’s passion and enthusiasm for personal training is infectious! Gav takes his time to get to know you and your goals and then puts his experience and expertise into action to enable you to achieve your results. Each session is different, with Gav tailoring your individual programme to suit your specific needs. I would not hesitate in recommending Gav for both face to face and remote personal training. He provides a bespoke programme to motivate and enable you to achieve your goals, walking every step of the journey with you .... quite literally! Heath Scott, Brighton Excellent PT and great motivator. Have been training with Gavin now just for a year and recently through Covid 19 lockdown have been doing remote training via What’s app, Gavin is very positive and he is so encouraging and adapts the training to you and your needs! He has a different session each time and I feel motivated and positive after each session! He is calm and patient and you get encouragement throughout each session! Highly recommend Gavin as a PT and cannot be more positive about the training I have and continue to have. Stuart Clarke, Peacehaven

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

I start by investing in a complimentary health and fitness consultation to understand your current level of health and fitness. I then take time to understand your goals; weight loss, tone and cardio fitness, increase muscle mass, beach body fitness, special event such as your wedding day. I will then beginning the process of designing a bespoke training programme, that will set some SMART goals. SMART simple means; S - Specific, M - Measurable, A - Achieveable, R - Realistic, T - Timeframed.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

Me putting 100% effort into each and every session, you doing the same.

What do you love most about your job?

Seeing the transformation as clients achieve their goals, that go beyond fitness.

Why should our clients choose you?

At 54, I'm an older trainer with old-fashioned communication skills combined with cutting edge personal training expertise. My focus will be on you, and only you throughout your session. Here are recent client testimonials:

What inspired you to start your own business?

My lifetime passion for keeping fit, led me naturally to retraining for this career, gaining a Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training at YMCAfit in London. I love sharing the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle. There is no greater reward than seeing each of my clients moving forward and achieving their individual goals.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, I can provide online personal training using Zoom . If you train one-on-one with me at least once a week, you can also attend my twice weekly online exercise classes for no extra charge. The classes run every Monday & Thursday at 11am.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

All kit is sanitised before and after use. I observe social distancing and will wear a face mask outdoors if requested. The majority of my clients train with me online as this the safest way.

Personal Trainers FAQs

It depends on your end goal. If you’re training for a marathon, you might work out nearly every day of the week. If you’re a low-level beginner, a minimum of three times a week is enough to make a noticeable impact. No matter what you’re working out for, everyone needs rest and recovery days. Without them, your muscles won’t be able to recuperate and grow strong, so remember to factor in some down-time, too!

Pretty much anywhere! The great thing about personal training is that it’s flexible - as long as you have the necessary equipment, you and your instructor can decide to have your sessions from the gym, your home, the park, or even your office if you want to!

Yes! First of all, they will chat with you about your goals, and discuss the best way to achieve them. They should also ask you to fill in a consent form to check that you don’t have any pre-existing health conditions that could impact your exercise. They’ll also carry out a health assessment to get a better idea of your current fitness level, tailoring your workout plan around that.

It's tricky to say, as personal training sessions vary significantly depending on what you want to achieve and the type of workout. Generally, one personal training session tends to last forty-five minutes to one hour. It will start with a gentle warm-up, followed by the nitty-gritty of the actual workout, with stretches to end the session. Remember, warming up and stretching is essential for injury prevention - it’s just as important as the main part of the workout!

A personal trainer needs to be clued up on all aspects of fitness, from the most effective exercise techniques to nutrition and human anatomy- that’s a lot of responsibility! You need to make sure your professional is suitably qualified for the job. After all, you shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to investing in your health. Make sure your trainer has the minimum qualifications required to practice. In the UK, this is the Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification.

Absolutely! Online personal training has become increasingly popular as more people are looking to maintain their fitness during lockdowns and gyms closing. As long as you and your personal trainer have a strong internet connection and a device to stream on like a laptop, tablet or smartphone, there's no reason why your session can't be delivered remotely.
