"AJS" is an independent firm of chartered building surveyors and property consultants. We cater for all clients, from individuals to the largest company structures, with a pedigree of experience with several local authorities and some major corporate entities including Shell International Petroleum, British Telecom, Network Rail, and central government departments. We certainly enjoy also working with real people too! Often undertaking building surveys for home buyers, valuations for those with Help To Buy mortgages that they want to settle or reduce the equity share, structural examinations of specialist and prefabricated buildings for lending purposes, and designing small to medium alterations and improvement works from design concept to full specification and pricing. We also specialise in key professional practice areas of: New buildings at site boundaries, party wall matters and excavation works within the proximity of third party structures (commonly but incorrectly known as "party wall surveyors" - we prefer to say we are chartered building surveyors with a sound knowledge of the Party Wall Etc Act 1996) Land and boundary disputes and negotiated settlements - with a clear grasp of the law of real property and the legal framework of registered and unregistered land titles Residential property surveying and valuation Commercial property surveying No job is too small, and we have yet to be defeated by a job that is too large (frankly, nothing seems to be too big!) and we are happy to discuss your project , your issues, your concerns and offer you a solution that fits your budget and your expectations. The firm is Regulated by RICS, meaning that the standards we adhere to are those of the largest body representing property professionals in the UK and with a world wide reputation for high standards.

What do you love most about your job?

My clients - they are all very interesting people with a range of outlooks. I love helping them. As owner of the business and as a home owner myself, I can directly relate to residential clients in particular and see things from their perpective.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I got so tired of lining the pockets of other business owners, taking a sizeable profit from my efforts and leaving me with a modest salary. I know that I can work just as well, if not better, on my own initiative and can afford to give each client the time and attention appropriate to their need.

Why should our clients choose you?

I care about your needs. I like to see a satisfied client, and I like to reassure and build confidence for those with building problems that need fixing. I try to avoid making things unnecessarily complicated. I try to explain things so that there are no misunderstandings. I am proud of my achievements in being able to serve, and solve issues for, my clients.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can assist in some aspects of online and remote assistance. I can offer advice and support by telephone, and minimise the need to ask for cover of costs for trips to and from premises when it is possible to work remotely.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I follow all the standard protocols for safety concerning Covid-19. I don't want to catch it and I certainly would not wish to transmit it to my clients. I wear face masks, protective gloves, and carry both hand sanitiser and anti-bacterial sprays with me as part of my standard safety kit. My work does, of course, often bring me into contact with others in buildings that they own or are looking to purchase, so I am meticulous in maintaining safe working practices. There is a small impact on costs as a result of the additional precautions and PPE consumed during my work, but this has been kept under review and control.
