Michael Watts-Jimenez (MWJ Therapy)

IN BRIEF: Professional counselor/therapist with over 25 years NHS experience. £60 for 50 minute online sessions (£38 for low wage/Students etc). If you are interested in working with me please message me on this platform and let me know, or book a call back. As a counsellor/therapist I have more than 25 years experience of working in the NHS. I worked with mild, moderate, and severe emotional and mental health issues, including, anxiety, OCD, intrusive thoughts, depression, self harming, eating disorders, childhood trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties and attachment difficulties. I am an integrative counsellor making use of all the therapeutic approaches I have learned during my 30 year career. The most valuable learning has come directly from the people who trusted me to work with them and who shared their therapeutic journey with me. I have been self employed and successfully working online since December 2021. If you come for therapy we may just talk about a problem or difficulty you are experiencing in the here and now. Use the space to think together, to understand a situation, to look at the options you have and support you to make a decision that is right for you. However I find in the work there is usually a moment when people make an emotional link between what they are feeling now and what they experienced or felt in their childhood. So much of who we are now is influenced by our early experiences in childhood. For example: easily becoming anxious or depressed, a need to over achieve and prove yourself or a lack of motivation to achieve anything, the difficulties you have in relationships, too open, too closed, too trusting, not trusting enough, your sense of self worth, how secure you feel and how confident you are or how you lack confidence and need to please people all the time, all these aspects of ourselves can be traced back to earlier relationships and experiences. Sometimes seeing and acknowledging an aspect of our younger selves can lead to profound healing both for that younger self and for us in the here and now. Growing up we learn to adapt and change to circumstances, we develop strategies and defences both conscious and unconscious to cope with what we are facing. It's so important to review these strategies and defences. So often what helped us cope and survive in the past may not be helping us now. It's important that we come up to date and become our best selves. One thing I have learned and continue to practice all the time is to be more present in my life. Therapy can help you to be more present in the moment, and with compassion, to explore fully your thoughts and feelings, to gain more insight, to heal past hurt, to notice negative patterns of thinking, to let go of judgement, and feel more confident and free to move forward in a positive way in your life. I am a registered member of the BACP, I have a recent DBS check and public liability insurance. I can offer you a safe and supportive relationship within which to explore your current difficulties and help you reach your goals. I charge £60 for 50 minute session (£38 student/low wage). If you would like to find out more please message me or book a callback. Kind Regards Michael.

What do you love most about your job?

It is real privilege talking to people about their lives. I think it is fair to say I have learned more from the people I have worked with than any book.
I have also had my own therapy at different times in my life which has given me an increased awareness of how best to help people.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I worked as a counsellor/therapist in the NHS for over 25 years.
I am now semi retired but really missed the contact with clients and so work online from home. Meeting people and working with them to gain more insight into their lives is so rewarding I hope to be able to continue working for many years to come.

Why should our clients choose you?

I think my extensive experience working in the NHS with Children, Adolescents and Adults is I know why some people choose to work with me.
I had experience of working with people with a variety of emotional and mental health difficulties, including anxiety, OCD, self harming, depression, eating disorders, childhood trama, intrusive thoughts and first episode psychosis. You can feel safe in the knowledge that your problems will be handled sensitively.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I only work online via video or voice call.
When I send people an appointment I also attach a link for a video call.
Online is still face to face and I have found it works really well for me and my clients.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Working online means this is not an issue. I was working in the NHS during the height of the pandemic and whilst I was still able to meet with some people face to face we also began to use video calls for therapy sessions. This is when I realised how positive and convenient this medium could be.
