"Sometimes I feel too much and sometimes I feel nothing." Do you sometimes feel that things around you aren't real, or that things are foggy or hazy? Or maybe you're sometimes hyper-aware of your surroundings, and it's hard to switch off. Does it feel like you can't get the support you want from another service - that you might not meet their criteria because you're too well, or too complicated, or too chaotic, or you can't explain properly? Maybe you've got a good idea of the things that have led to you feeling low, or empty, or angry, or scared, or maybe those feelings seem to have come from nowhere. In therapy you are free to say as much or as little as you want: you can spill everything out, take a long or short time to explain, bring feelings and thoughts that don't go well into words, or you can just take time to discover what you want to do. Therapy can be about talking about experiences and difficulties, but you can also use creative ways to explore what you need to - you may choose to talk, or draw, to use lego or playdough, or map out your thoughts - whatever you prefer. We work together to find out what works for you. I have a well-equipped therapy room, on the ground floor with toilet access. There are two comfortable chairs, a sofa, and floorspace. There are plastic animals and figures, a sand tray, lego, playdough, cars, art materials, puppets, and a doll's house (definitely not just for children or females!). There is also no pressure to be creative if you don't want to!

What do you love most about your job?

If your emotional or mental health is a tough daily experience for you, if sometimes you feel too much and sometimes you feel nothing at all, what I love most about my job is being able to offer a safe accepting working relationship where you can come for a few weeks, a few months or a few years, without having to go on a waiting list, accept help from someone you don't feel comfortable with, or have your sessions automatically brought to an end because there's a limit imposed by the system.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have experience and training in loss and bereavement, depression, anxiety, low mood and panic, trauma and dissociation, suicidality and self-harm, safeguarding and creative therapy. I have extensive experience working in a College and University Counselling Service, a Women's Therapy Service, and with parents and pupils in school counselling services. I've worked with people of all ages, from age 6 , children, young people, students, adults, to past retirement (sometimes well past retirement!).

All together I realised that to offer an independent service alongside my work in other agencies means that people can access support at a time that suits them, in an environment that doesn't feel so cold and clinical as some services that are available. I'm able to offer long-term therapy as well as short-term, without the waiting lists, and where you can meet me and see what I'm like in order to make a decision for yourself about whether therapy with me is what you want.

Why should our clients choose you?

You should choose me if you've read my profile or had a look at my website and you feel that I'd be a safe therapist for you. You can have a free consultation so that you can see what I look like, how I talk, whether you feel that I listen to you, whether you think that you'd be able to talk to me. You can ask me any questions you want to, and tell me a bit about yourself, and what you're looking for, if you would like to. Then if you wanted to you could book a session, or a few sessions, to get a better idea of whether you'd like to come for regular therapy.

I am a dissociation-friendly and ASD-friendly therapist.

I hold the PGDip in Psychotherapy and Counselling, a Masters in Education, and have Foundation and Post-Foundation training in Trauma and Dissociation, as well as extensive experience. I am a Registered Member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and a member of ISSTD (International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation). I have regular clinical supervision, professional indemnity insurance and safeguarding training. I have a full enhanced DBS which you are welcome to view online - please do ask.
