Grant Mitchell - Modern Magic & Mind Reading

‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I perform what I believe to be the most intimate and direct form of magic – close-up magic. Using sleight-of-hand and mind-reading techniques, I will provide memorable and personal entertainment for all your guests. This form of magic has various names, strolling, table hopping and walkaround – but they all share the common theme of being highly interactive and immensely fun. In short, I perform my magic by approaching a group of guests and engaging with them – using little more than a few basic props (cards, coins, rubber bands, borrowed items) and my finely tuned skills. This brings with it many unique advantages to you as somebody looking for maximum entertainment, with minimal inconvenience. I can slot right into your event with little re-planning.

How long have you been interested in magic?

Ever since my parents gave me a Fisher Price magic set when I was 7, I have been fascinated by the impossible. As I grew up, I would scour the TV guide for the next magic show, or count the days until David Copperfield was touring again. I would entertain my family and friends with increasingly elaborate magic and was always the main event at Christmas dinner. Fast forward a few years, and I am now an award winning member of the Edinburgh Magic Circle – which means you can trust me to entertain, dazzle and astound.

Take us through your show – what can we expect?

I perform a mix of classic close-up magic (with playing cards and borrowed items for example) along with some Derren Brown-esque mind reading - which is always fun! I mingle with your guests, involving as many as possible directly within my routines. It's highly entertaining and always brings something a bit different.

What do you love most about your job?

Meeting new people all the time, and being able to add impossible magical moments to events.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Magic has always been a hobby to me, and it was my friends and family who convinced me that I should share the experience with others.

Why should our clients choose you?

I can relate to what you are going through in your search to make your event truly AWESOME, and would love to be involved… but why should you book me?

Here are a few reasons why I believe I can exceed your expectations:

I am passionate about this unique art form, and have been studying Magic and Mind-Reading techniques for over 25 years

Being an award winning Member of the Edinburgh Magic Circle means you can trust me to entertain, dazzle and astound

Before becoming a Magician, I worked at Disney World in Florida, where I learnt the very best in customer service and creating magical memories by personally interacting with over 1,000 guests every day. In fact, I was offered the job after vanishing a 50p coin given to me by the interviewer (she never got it back)

I am also a professional musician, which has aided my Magic with dexterity and by providing a true understanding of performance with the application of creative sparkle to everything that I do

You can trust in my reliable and dependable business skills acquired from spending several years working within various corporate environments – from organising international conferences for 600+ delegates to delivering keynote speeches

You will deal direct with me, there are no third-parties – I am always available to answer your questions, and through better understanding your exact needs

I can tailor my performance to your event

I have full public liability insurance – please contact me here should you require a copy of my Certificate of Insurance

Friendly, courteous and professional at all times, the only surprises I’ll spring on you are the ones you’re hiring me for

Magicians won’t give much away - that’s the nature of their job after all! But one thing you should be certain of when hiring a magician is whether they’ll be worth your money. The best way to assess your magician’s ability and skill is by viewing their website or Bark profile. Most magicians will have video examples of their tricks to showcase the best they have to offer. Always remember to check their reviews, as genuine customers will give an honest assessment of their work. It’s quick and simple to read reviews of professionals on Bark - just head over to their Bark profile and have a read!

As magicians work with the general public every day, it’s important that they have insurance to cover them in the case that anything goes wrong. It’s a good idea to ask for their insurance details before committing to a booking so that you can rest assured that you’ll be safe in their hands.

As the name suggests, a close-up magician will perform a variety of tricks up close - just inches away from their audience. This adds to the allure and surprise as you’ll be left wondering how the magician managed to pull the trick off literally in front of your eyes. Close-up magicians usually circulate around the room to perform tricks on smaller groups, making for an immersive experience.
