I am from the city that never sleeps…New York, but swapped the Big Apple for London in 2011. I took my very first yoga class in 2001 (for no rhyme or reason) at a very small Ashram in Queens. The classes ran on donations. The teachers were traditional looking yogis in orange attire with long hair and a beard. They were very heavy on pranayama practice and were very keen on teaching us the philosophy of yoga.

I received hypnotherapy from Susan to help with my crippling phobia of spiders. I have had this fear since being a young child and witnessing my mums same fear. I decided to take action as I don’t want to pass this on to my children. It was so bad that I once sat on a table for two hours until my flat mate came home and removed the spider from the room. After only a couple of sessions I was confronted with a spider in my car when I was driving. I pulled the car over safely whilst hearing Susan’s words in my head ‘you are calm and relaxed’. My heart rate slowed immediately and I was able to pick it up with a tissue and let it out the car. I never in a million years thought I would be able to that! I have come across a few more spiders since my treatment and I’m happy to say the fear has gone. Susan’s help has been invaluable, I would highly recommend her.

I had wanted to do yoga for many years, but had never had the courage to find myself a class until I became pregnant last year. I started classes when I was 18 weeks and Linda encouraged me to join a class with other women with a similar due date to me.
At every stage of my pregnancy, Linda was attentive to my needs and helped me and the rest of the class exercise safely. These classes were also excellent preparation for birth as the all important breathing techniques that I found the NHS simply do not provide were regularly covered and I found them to be invaluable during my birthing experience. I was able to use them to control my pain and consequently gave birth without the use of drugs - something I'm sure I would not have done had I not had the correct training throughout my pregnancy!
I have also found these classes to be invaluable when it came to meeting other mothers. Each week, we would share baby news, which meant that we gradually got to know each other. As a class, we all came back after all the babies were born and did the baby massage and baby yoga class together - something my son has thoroughly enjoyed and continues to do so as the songs we learned helped to make the yoga fun and really forge a bond between the two of us - one song in particular is nearly always guaranteed to evoke a smile and even end tears! Five months later and my class are still meeting up weekly - I've just finished clearing up after hosting today's get-together!
Four months after birth, I started a 'normal' yoga class and Linda has continued to be caring and supportive in my bid to shape up, always advising me on how to exercise safely, but also encouraging me to push myself and try new things.
I have only positive things to say about Linda and the yoga experience she provides for all the life stages I have experienced, but particularly during my pregnancy. If you are expecting a baby, you will find that yoga is a fantastic way to bond with your baby and prepare you for
How much do Therapists cost?
This will vary according to the level of experience and training that the therapist holds.
This will depend on where you live, what level of training your therapist has and what they specialise in (whether they are a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist) and also how many years of working experience they have.
Your professional therapist will be able to advise you on the full range of therapies available and will be able to help you select the best one to suit your needs. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a trusted therapist today.
How do I find the right Therapist?
You need to devote some time to finding the right therapist as the connection you have with your therapist is essential. You need someone who you can trust, someone you feel comfortable talking to about difficult subjects and intimate secrets, someone who will be a partner in your recovery. Therapy will not be effective unless you have this bond, so take some time in the beginning to find the right person.
It is worth talking to a few potential therapists and asking questions. Therapists also have special areas of focus, such as depression or eating disorders. For some issues, such as trauma or PTSD, seeing a specialist is absolutely essential.
How many sessions of Therapy will I need?
Everyone’s treatment is different. How long your therapy lasts depends on many factors.
You may be offered a single session of counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your trusted Bark therapist.
What should I look for in a Therapist?
Professional counsellor training takes three to five years and can be a diploma or degree level. Qualification requires a minimum number of client hours acquired through a work placement.
You may also want to ask for testimonials of their recent work. You could also look at their profile page on Bark and Bark can show you reviews from past customers who have used their therapy.
What are the benefits of Therapy?
Therapy has repeatedly and consistently helped patients with a whole host of issues. It can help with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. Or it can help with an upsetting physical health condition such as infertility, a difficult life event such as a bereavement or a relationship breakdown. It can also be used to tackle difficult emotions such as low self-esteem, anger or sexual identity issues. Therapists also offer couples therapy. Therapists can also help with anxiety issues deriving from the coronavirus.
Can I get a Therapist online?
Absolutely! Many therapists offer sessions over the phone or through an online video chat platform, so you can have a session from the comfort of your own home - all you need is a strong internet connection and you're good to go.
