I am currently a final year medical student. I have studied in South Africa and Ireland and have experienced learning in many diverse environments. This has allowed me to understand the different learning types and requirements of tutees. Due to my demanding course, I've learnt valuable study skills such as spaced repetition which I facilitate into my teaching methodology in content-heavy subjects such as Biology. With 4+ years of tutoring experience, I have successfully guided A-level students to not only enhance their understanding of subject matter but also improve their exam techniques. My approach goes beyond teaching content; it involves instilling confidence in students and ensuring they're well-equipped for both academic challenges and examinations. Each tutoring session is tailored to the unique learning requirements of the individual. As a standard practise, I initiate each lesson with a review of previously covered material, ensuring my students get repeated exposure to key concepts. Next, we delve into in-depth teaching and concept comprehension. To help with exam technique, more than 20 minutes is dedicated to practice with exam questions directly from past papers. In addition to maintaining a professional and structured approach, I pride myself on creating a kind and supportive learning environment. I also provide detailed notes, ensuring that my students have valuable resources beyond the tutoring sessions to further solidify their understanding. I aim to create a holistic and effective learning experience for each student.

What do you love most about your job?

As a medical student with a passion for biology and teaching, there are several aspects of my job that I absolutely love:

I enjoy sharing tips and tricks that got me through my A levels to my students. Watching them have that "aha" moment when they grasp a difficult topic / understand connections between topics due to mnemonics is incredibly rewarding.

As a medical student, I appreciate the connections between biology and medicine. Teaching biology allows me to highlight these links and show students the real-world applications of what they're learning.

There is a also great satisfaction in knowing that I am making a positive impact on someone's educational journey but helping them achieve their academic goals and learn exam technique which will always help them in other subjects and in their future careers.
