I worked as a lecturer in further education for 15 years and became interested in complementary therapies several years ago when I was looking for a way to help a family member combat their anxiety. Hypnotherapy was a revelation, and I love sharing what I learnt with others both at home and in the workplace In 2010, I qualified as a Registered Hypnotherapist accredited by the National Council of Hypnotherapy. Since then I’ve helped hundreds of clients address all sorts of health issues and make long-term positive changes in their lives. I’m also am NHS-trained mindfulness coach and wellbeing consultant, and I have an MSc in Workplace Health and Wellbeing. I run courses and workshops in the corporate world as well as working with private clients at my treatment room outside Nottingham city centre. I really enjoy helping people reach their goals and feel better. No two days are the same and it's so rewarding seeing people progress.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started researching natural ways to help someone in my family. We tried getting help from the NHS which didn't really work for us. I started researching into alternatives. I was drawn to hypnotherapy as it is so effective. I found it amazing and so I trained to be a hypnotherapist myself!

The duration of therapy will really be dependent on your circumstances and issues. Some people may require a longer-term approach with regular weekly sessions. Your hypnotherapist will let you know how many sessions they feel you might need when you start therapy and will be flexible when it comes to decreasing or extending the number of sessions according to your progress and needs.

There are currently no guidelines in place stipulating the training and qualifications a hypnotherapist must have in order to practice. Industry guidelines recommend that individuals should have completed at least an appropriate diploma or have completed a course that involved a minimum of 450 learning hours, of which 120 hours must have been face-to-face.
