I would highly recommend Gemma. She has been a great help for my 10 year old son. She has helped my son to understand his feelings / anxiety and has helped him and me as a parent to cope with a variety of situations which we had found challenging to manage. It has been extremely helpful to put a little distance between parent and child in trying to deal with feelings/behaviour. This has alll been achieved in a non judgemental and supportive way,. It has significantly helped my son to feel in control and have the confidence to deal with situations he would have previously found challenging. It has also helped me to understand how I can best support my son.

I chose to do a Breakthrough with Dave because I was tired of spending so many years constantly at the beck and call of anxiety and depression. I’ve previously spent a lot of hours in different forms of therapy, and I was initially sceptical about only having two days to give me a new outlook on life, but I wanted to take steps to get better.
In short, the first day I spent working with Dave was nothing short of transformative! He helped me challenge long-held beliefs about trusting myself, and to develop a new way to look at life. I left my first session feeling different, with a sense of self-confidence I haven’t felt in many years. The second day was about showing me what is possible for me to achieve in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. I left my Breakthrough confident that I have the tools to challenge my anxiety and depression in the future, and knowing that Dave will be there to support me in the months to come. I don’t feel like a victim any more.
I would recommend the Breakthrough to anyone who feels like they’re not taking advantage of what life has to offer. The support I received from Dave during and after my Breakthrough was friendly, accessible, and worth every penny. On top of that, his brand of humour, helpfulness, and encouragement is fantastic!
Thank you for everything, Dave!

For the last two decades I've worked on one simple question: "How does change happen?" In 2004, it happened for me, when I recovered from addiction, and in the following decades I trained as a psychotherapist and practiced in both counselling and coaching. In that time, I've seen the miracle of change happen in countless people. In my work with others, I've seen people with crippling addictions literally come back from the edge and become stable, happy and whole again.

My approach to counselling There are many different types of therapies out there and it can be very difficult to know which one to choose. I prefer an investigative approach to counselling, this can help me get to the core of the issue. This then allows me to offer the correct methods and approaches depending on what your needs may be. I’m experienced in a wide range of areas and am always learning and enhancing my practice by attending workshops and training.

I offer both Counselling and Hypnotherapy. My style of counselling is known as person centered, I trained using the humanistic model at Bristol University. This model deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves consciously rather than how a counsellor can interpret unconscious thoughts or ideas. It is a non-authoritarian approach that allows you to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, you will discover you own solutions. I am there to offer compassion, to listen without judgement and to encourage, support and guide you without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery. It works extremely well for anyone who would be would like to gain more self-confidence, a stronger sense of identity, and the ability to build healthy interpersonal relationships and to trust his or her own decisions could benefit from person-centered therapy. It can also be very helpful for those who suffer from grief, depression or anxiety. Counselling will give you an opportunity to think and talk about yourself and concerns that you often cannot do with family and friends. I offer a safe, confidential space where you can talk about yourself and your life. To listen with no judgment, helping you to make the changes that you would like to happen, working towards improving your life and well-being. I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within the BACP ethical framework. Helpful information sheets are available on line which give a fuller explanation of what might be expected during therapy. www.bacp.co.uk/seeking_therapist. I also offer Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH). Chances are when you think of hypnotherapy, you either imagine a swinging pocket watch or a hapless audience member being made to cluck like a chicken on stage in the name of entertainment. Neither of these preconceptions is true. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnosis with theories based on modern neuroscience. CBH is a collaborative process, not simply ‘done to you’. The object is to enable you to essentially become your own therapist over time learning self-hypnosis and mindfulness thus leading to more helpful ways of thinking and behaving. Over the course of the sessions, you will learn relaxation techniques which you can apply yourself and then hypnosis and self hypnosis to deepen the effects and heighten feelings of confidence. The client therapist collaboration is very important. Goal setting is an important part of the process it is important to be specific and have a time frame to work within. The principle of CBH is when you are fully relaxed and in a hypnotic state, this is when you are more susceptible to positive suggestion. Therefore each treatment is bespoke for each client as we are all different and have our own unique ways of seeing our worlds even if it is unhelpful at times. When choosing my training it was imperative to me that the training I undertook was based on theory and evidence which it very much is. I studied at the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy in London. My accredited Hypnotherapy training is the only externally verified hypnotherapy training programme approved by The British Psychological Society Learning Centre. I am a registered Practitioner with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR). I am fully insured for professional and public liability. Hypnotherapy is recognised by the British Medical Association (BMA), the American Medical Association and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). Hypnotherapy has proven to be a safe and effective alternative that can help with a wide range of problems in just a few hours of treatment. If you are hoping to be taken back to a previous life in a trance then I am not the hypnotherapist for you. If however you want to experience effective treatment and have a desire to make positive changes in your life and believe that hypnotherapy will work for you then look no further. As Albert Einstein was quoted as saying “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we create them”. I am also a trained Smoking Cessation Hypnotherapist. This is a two-hour session, a treatment that is bespoke for each individual. Both disciplines can help with a multitude of issues. To establish if it can help you please call or email for a free informal chat. Counselling per hour is £45 Hypnotherapy per hour is £70 Smoking cessation is £130 for two-hour session.
Working with people who have the courage to make changes within their lives and working together to support them.
It was a big step for me to take the decision to start my own business but I am confident that I can make a difference to peoples lives through my therapy.
I decided that as a therapist I can be creativea and put my skills to good use, whilst still working within boundaries and ethics for my practice.
As a former registered general nurse I am familiar with working with people in distress from all walks of life. I have a broad experience as a nurse and therapist. I have walked many miles in the wards of the NHS and private sector. I have worked in the drug and alcohol service, both residential and in the community. Most recently, I worked in senior positions of management within the healthcare system and can fully empathise with those suffering with work related stress. I am qualified to offer both counselling and hypnotherapy, including smoking cessation. I follow an evidence based approach with my hypnotherapy practice. I work within the ethical guidelines of my registering bodies and I am fully insured for my practice. My method or working is a collaborative approach with the client, taking the lead from the client.
