At my practice, I offer lots of different types of counselling services – from individual sessions to group therapy. It all depends on what each client needs and what they’ll benefit from. Because a lot of my clients lead busy lives, I also offer online and telephone counselling if that suits their schedule better. Although I always suggest coming in for a face-to-face session now and then, as these are often very helpful.
To be a certified counsellor, you need to have a Level 4 qualification in counselling. This can be as a diploma, or at a degree or postgraduate level. I chose to go down the university route by undertaking a BSc Hons in Psychology & Counselling. This meant that I got a degree and was accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am now a registered counsellor with over 10 years of experience and have completed a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules.
Most of my clients have certain goals in mind when it comes to their therapy. Often they want to resolve issues which are causing difficulties in their lives. This may be problems in their personal relationships that they want help working through. It could be with their partner, family, friends, or work colleagues. Or they may want to develop coping mechanisms to help deal with their own mental health. But often these can interlink. For example, if a client is wanting help with their personal relationships, this often has a positive knock-on effect on their own mental health.

I genuinely believe Dr Priya changed the trajectory of my life during one of the darkest and most destabilising periods I’ve ever experienced. I started seeing her while navigating betrayal, grief, anxiety, nervous system dysregulation, deep emotional burnout and the process of rebuilding myself after my entire life unexpectedly fell apart. What stood out to me from the very beginning was that she never coddled me, never fed me comforting nonsense, and never made me feel like I needed to stay “broken” to keep coming back to therapy. She challenged me when I needed to be challenged, called me out when I was abandoning myself, and helped me rebuild my self-worth, emotional regulation and sense of identity from the ground up. At the same time, she held so much compassion and care. I never once felt judged, rushed or dismissed. She has this rare ability to make you feel deeply seen while also helping you take accountability for your healing and your life. What I also deeply appreciated was how holistic her approach was. Our sessions were not just traditional talk therapy. Depending on what I needed, she would thoughtfully integrate things like EMDR, breathwork, grounding techniques, nervous system regulation, meditation and deeper reflective work into the process. It never felt one-dimensional or transactional, it felt like she genuinely cared about helping me heal in a sustainable and embodied way. She helped me understand my nervous system, relationship patterns, attachment wounds, people-pleasing tendencies and emotional triggers in such a grounded and empowering way. Not in a fluffy “positive vibes only” way, but in a real, practical, deeply transformative way. There were many moments where she saw things clearly before I did, and gently guided me back to myself over and over again until I could finally stand on my own emotionally again. If you are looking for a therapist who is intelligent, honest, emotionally grounded, deeply intuitive and genuinely invested in helping you become stronger, healthier and more self-aware, I cannot recommend Dr Priya enough.

I first met Yiz after a failed relationship with another therapist, and I'm more than grateful to him for my healing journey. I came into the session with a lot of guilt and shame, helpless about my situation but Yiz was patient at holding space for me, which made me feel safe to open up to him. He taught me many valuable skills by guiding me to discover them independently which grew my confidence and build trust in myself again. My current situation is one that my past self would have never imagined possible, like an unlocked secret ending. Thank you once again for being a part of my healing journey! :)

How much does Counselling cost?
Your expert counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.
What should I expect from my Counselling session?
At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.
Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:
Face to face session
Group session
Phone session
Email session
Online through live chat services or video conferencing software
You may be offered a single session of counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your counsellor.
You can be confident that any of the Bark local counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.
What should I look for when booking a Counselling session?
You could look for counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.
Before you choose a counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.
You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.
What issues can a Counsellor help with?
Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.
Physical health conditions such as infertility.
Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.
Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.
Sexual identity issues.
Divorce.
Redundancy and work issues.
Phobias and fears.
Can I get a Counselling Service online?
Absolutely! Many counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
