How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

Firstly, in order for us to help you we need to understand your goals, we do this with an in-depth goal setting session looking at what's motivating you and the timeframes that you have to reach your goals.

We then set out a plan to reach your goals that we both agree on. This plan is based on all the information that we have learnt from the session and is designed to challenge you!

We will then have regular reviews of your goals to ensure that you are on track to reach them.

Setting your personal health and fitness goals is very much the same as you would use in planning the success of a business only in this case the business is you and your health, fitness and wellbeing.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

The secret to getting the body of your dreams is not so much a secret but does come down to a number of factors:
Plan to succeed
Your Drive - the reason WHY you want it
Setting Realistic Achievable Goals
Data - recording your exercise sessions and food intake
Education - giving you the tools to manage your body in the future
Having the support of a coach or someone to recognise the positives and to encourage you when you are feeling low.

When you understand the reasons WHY you want something it will keep you focused on it, enable you to stick to the plan and make it real. The more real a picture you have in your mind of who you will be, the more successful you will be.

The final part and the most controversial is that getting the body of your dreams, reaching a new personal best, running a marathon, completing a triathlon or any new sporting pursuit is that they can take time. If you want to lose weight or develop more strength, for lasting positive effects it takes time for the body change.

Yes, you can go on crash diets and lose weight very quickly but the weight loss will mainly be water weight and will go straight back on when you start to eat normally again. Often with the long-term result that you will be heavier than when you first started the diet.

A calorie controlled diet with exercise will get you amazing results that will last a lifetime not just a couple of months.

If you were to put it into a formula is would look like this
Nutrition (80%) + Exercise (20%) x Mindset (100%) = Success

What do you love most about your job?

Seeing the amazing results that our clients achieve during their time being coached by us and the messages that we get years after their time with us sharing more of their experiences and how the information and tools we have given them has changed their lives forever.

Helping someone to become the person that they have always aspired to be is very humbling and the most rewarding part of what we do as trainers and coaches.

It depends on your end goal. If you’re training for a marathon, you might work out nearly every day of the week. If you’re a low-level beginner, a minimum of three times a week is enough to make a noticeable impact. No matter what you’re working out for, everyone needs rest and recovery days. Without them, your muscles won’t be able to recuperate and grow strong, so remember to factor in some down-time, too!

Pretty much anywhere! The great thing about personal training is that it’s flexible - as long as you have the necessary equipment, you and your instructor can decide to have your sessions from the gym, your home, the park, or even your office if you want to!

Yes! First of all, they will chat with you about your goals, and discuss the best way to achieve them. They should also ask you to fill in a consent form to check that you don’t have any pre-existing health conditions that could impact your exercise. They’ll also carry out a health assessment to get a better idea of your current fitness level, tailoring your workout plan around that.

It's tricky to say, as personal training sessions vary significantly depending on what you want to achieve and the type of workout. Generally, one personal training session tends to last forty-five minutes to one hour. It will start with a gentle warm-up, followed by the nitty-gritty of the actual workout, with stretches to end the session. Remember, warming up and stretching is essential for injury prevention - it’s just as important as the main part of the workout!

A personal trainer needs to be clued up on all aspects of fitness, from the most effective exercise techniques to nutrition and human anatomy- that’s a lot of responsibility! You need to make sure your professional is suitably qualified for the job. After all, you shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to investing in your health. Make sure your trainer has the minimum qualifications required to practice. In the UK, this is the Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification.
