Frequently asked questions

How much do personal chef services cost in the UK?

According to Bark's research, costs vary with menu complexity, number of guests and ingredients. A private chef for a dinner party or event typically costs around £150 to £400 for an evening, including preparation and cooking. For regular meal services, pricing may be £40 to £70 per person per meal depending on the chef and menu choices.

How far in advance should I book a personal chef?

For special occasions or dinner parties, booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead gives you the best choice and allows the chef to plan menus properly. For regular weekly meal services, you may be able to arrange something within a few days or agree on a rolling schedule.

Will the chef clean up after cooking?

Most personal chefs tidy the kitchen and wash cooking equipment as part of their service, leaving your kitchen in good order. It's worth confirming what's included when you book, especially for larger events.

What type of chef services do you offer?

My team and I specialise in cooking for one-off events that need private dining services. This means that I have cooked for a wide variety of events. Clients have hired our services for family gatherings and birthday dos. We’ve also provided food for celebrations like small weddings and engagement parties, as well as corporate events like networking dinners. Each event is unique, and so is the client’s requirements, which keeps us on our toes. We can offer menus with multiple dishes or just one course, sit down dinners or canapé options. Whatever the client, we can do it.

Where do you source your ingredients from?

I’m enthusiastic about sourcing our ingredients from organic and local suppliers as much as possible. You can really taste the quality difference in the end result. The only exception to this will be if a client requests more unusual ingredients. For example, if an ingredient needs sourcing from abroad, such as a particular type of wine, cheese or even spice. In which case, wherever possible we go to organic suppliers who are passionate about the quality of their product.

How do you come up with a menu?

Our food tells a story, often in ways that are hard to explain. For every event, we want to make the food as personalised and unique as possible. So we work closely with each client to find out about the event, the guests, their requirements and if they have any personal preferences. It might be that they want a certain type of cuisine or a particular dish, or to incorporate a certain theme into the menu. Sometimes our clients want to reflect personal details in the menu, such as a location where a couple met or the host’s favourite film. This makes every event different. We create a new menu for each, taking inspiration from the client, previous events and our own experience.
