I instantly clicked with Sarah and found her to be so helpful and understanding throughout the time we spent together. I looked forward to our weekly sessions and found that regularly speaking to Sarah really helped me when I faced difficult times. Sarah has given me belief in myself and allowed me to understand why I might find certain times challenging. She has made me think more kindly towards myself and shown me that I am not alone.

Maybe your relationship hangs in the balance and you need the help to see whether to stay together or separate, do you need to do this separately or as a couple. Perhaps you have gone through the whole divorce process and have come out the other side and are feeling as lost and scared as you did at the beginning because 'when the divorce comes through' has been your mantra and now it has nothing has changed about the way you feel?

Becca is a warm, gentle, totally approachable and immensely gifted woman. Our paths crossed last year and through her guidance, listening and reiki sessions she has helped me remember 'me' and has given me tools on how to focus on my important stuff and not stress about the rest. I can not recommend her highly enough and I whole heartedly believe that everyone needs a bit of 'Becca' in their lives. X

This disused office building - an eyesore for several decades - was rescued by the vision of Bristol philanthropist and builder, Martin Connolly. When he spoke to the city's planning department about his plan to turn Hamilton House into a community hub, the planner replied (helpfully): "Over my dead body." Luckily Martin Connolly persevered. Hamilton House, run by Co-exist, is now a thriving hub for charities, not-for-profits, freelancers and artists. It also houses the popular Canteen bar and cafe on the ground floor. Thanks to Martin Connolly's vision and financial support, Hamilton House is helping regenerate Stokes Croft bringing work, vibrancy and livelihood to a neglected urban area.

I am also a qualified Hypnotherapist registered with the National Hypnotherapy Society. Therapy offers an important step in discovering the world around us and finding our place in it. For some people, coming to therapy is a big step. It can take courage to identify a need to heal, recover or progress.

I had my first ever hypnotherapy just over a week ago for smoking cessation, being new to this approach I was slightly sceptical and intrigued as to how this treatment would turn out.
From the off I felt immediately relaxed and at ease with Reuben, who is a great listener and obviously good at what he does, the session went well and most importantly I haven't touched a single cigarette since, I feel so happy that I am free from tobacco slavery, massive thanks to Reuben for his good work, but I must make it clear, that this is not for everyone, but if you have the right mindset and the determination, Reuben is the right man to make it happen.

The only way I can accurately describe Robyn is as my Earth Angel. Being a great psychotherapist goes well beyond just being a good listener - warmth, empathy, care and objectivity are just a few of the fantastic qualities Robyn brings to her practise. I leave my time with her feeling understood, comforted, uplifted and focused. She doesn't hesistate to challenge my belief systems, if need be, which I appreciate so much during times when I feel I can't see the wood for the trees or I find myself slipping back into deep rooted negative patterns that don't serve my health and wellbeing! She has consistently been there through so many occassions when I have needed all of those wonderful qualities she holds, to help me help myself along this long and winding, rollercoaster of a ride called life. I cannot recommend her enough!

Let me begin by telling you a story … Back in 1993, a lady was put into a situation where she feared for her personal safety. She was actually very safe, in the house where she lived - but a situation led to her feeling very unsafe. This feeling took the lady to a place that ultimately opened up a huge can of worms …. and subsequently into therapy. The first therapist she saw was unhelpful in her approach and so the lady decided, she didn't need therapy.

I decided to try NLP after realising that I wasn’t coping with stress, anxiety, and depression. At the same time, I was also receiving a course of CBT. The CBT was such a disappointment, the approach seemed to be trying to get me to fit the CBT ‘mould’, and given my issues at the time I felt very ‘boxed in’ which was not helping me in the slightest. A dear friend recommended NLP and with trepidation I met with Fiona. My first session started without me realising it had, such was the friendly, safe environment Fiona has built for her coaching and is also testament to Fiona herself. During the session I was asked questions which allowed me to explain my problems in my own words, at my own pace, and how they affected me. The following sessions saw me delving into parts of me I never thought to visit again, or confront. They were deep, emotional and ultimately cathartic. In addition, she gave me various practical techniques I could use in the future which would also help me overcome my problems. I cannot thank Fiona enough for this insight into me, and how NLP can help me in the future both professionally and in my home life. I highly recommend Fiona and her excellent NLP coaching.

Hi, I’m Kate and I’m an experienced counsellor working online or via the telephone. I work with adults based anywhere in the UK. I offer a free 30 minute initial appointment so that we can discuss what you want from counselling and where we might begin. I’ve been in practice for over ten years having qualified with a professional diploma in therapeutic counselling in 2011.
We’re all unique, yet we share some challenges in life. Stress, trauma, loss and fear are just a few that can knock us off course. I see therapy as a way not only of getting you back on track, fast, but helping you to fulfil your potential. When the difficulties of life leave you feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope, I can help you to find the first steps to recovery. No one therapy can work for all, so my approach is to build on what works for you, drawing on therapeutic disciplines that best fit your presentation and personality.

But within a couple of months, that can of worms started wiggling and she sought help with a different therapist. What followed was 18 months of therapy …. the lady was of course me, and so my journey into the world of therapy began. I know how difficult it is to make that first contact with a therapist, how scary it can seem to make the call but how much better it will be once you have found that courage to take the first small step. Seeing a counsellor is a tough choice - and as the client, it's important it feels right for you. That's why I offer a free 30 minute consultation. At the consultation, you will have the opportunity to meet with me and to work out if we are a good match for each other. In the main, I work with clients who have anxiety and/or depression or who just know that something is not quite right but they are not sure what. If this is you, please feel free to book in for your free consultation - no pressure from me to book a paid appointment because only you will know if it is the right thing to do for you
When clients leave sessions with a sense of control and empowerment, I know I have done my job. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a client grow in confidence, self belief and strength. This is what I love about my job
Having suffered with severe anxiety myself, I am aware how challenging life can seem when things aren't going the way we want them to. And the "helpful" comments from friends and family doesn't always help.
I started my business because I wanted to provide a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental place for people to come to and explore their concerns.
All I would ask is that clients come to 1 appointment with me to see if we can work together. I will never ask you to make a second appointment during the initial session as I believe you should be given the time to reflect and make the decision by yourself away from the therapy room without pressure.
My reason for doing this - the first counselling session I ever had was horrible and I didn't like the counsellor. However, feeling vulnerable as I was, I felt obliged to rebook when asked to and had a couple of sessions with her before avoiding counselling for the next 2 years! I believe in working at the client's pace and the client's wants and needs.
How much does Counselling cost?
Your expert Counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.
What should I expect from my Counselling session?
At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained Counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The Counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.
Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:
Face to face session
Group session
Phone session
Email session
Online through live chat services or video conferencing software
You may be offered a single session of Counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your Counsellor.
You can be confident that any of the Bark local Counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.
What should I look for when booking a Counselling session?
You could look for Counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.
Before you choose a Counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.
You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.
What issues can a Counsellor help with?
Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.
Physical health conditions such as infertility.
Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.
Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.
Sexual identity issues.
Divorce.
Redundancy and work issues.
Phobias and fears.
Can I get a Counselling Service online?
Absolutely! Many Counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
