Nick Shanagher

‘21 Certificate of Excellence

Nick Shanagher supports the owners of small enterprises to focus on their strengths and make money. His clients achieve their plans, avoid time-wasting and deliver more value for themselves, their family, their colleagues and their customers. Based in the Thames Valley, Nick has accreditation from the award-winning IBD Business Advice Group. His services are available both online and in-person. Key focus areas include: Set and hit targets. Many of my clients signed up because while they had clear goals, something was always getting in the way of success. For example, they were too busy managing the same issues over and over again. Or their marketing was not attracting enough customers. Or their costs were high, and it was not clear which activity was working. A one-page gameplan quickly puts the focus in the right areas to win customers, generate cash, and get the most out of your people. Build your value proposition. A big challenge for every business owner is to ensure that their product or service solves a problem or creates an opportunity that enough customers will care about enough to want to buy. Marketing is about getting noticed, but my clients benefit from using two simple tools that ensure there is demand from purchasers and that their messages stand out in a crowded marketplace. Get a grip. Good disciplines are needed to make a strategy work. As companies grow, they face a series of tipping points where they have to review how they operate to ensure that the right people are in the right seats to deliver good customer service. Improved communications and goal setting are vital to help teams pull together and that the good things about your business can scale up. My clients include successful owner/managers, start-up entrepreneurs who need a second pair of eyes to stay on track, and directors keen to develop their leadership skills and careers. About the IBD The IBD Business Advice Group is Finance Monthly's best small business adviser in the UK and is named by SME Business News as the best small business adviser. Nick is one of 200 accredited advisers who help thousands of UK business owners get their enterprises to the next level by providing practical help and advice.

What do you love most about your job?

I like it when my client links their success to something that we worked on together. When this happens, I usually have to point out that the client did all the work themselves, taking the idea that we discussed and making it work.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After 25 years of building a media business, I took a short break and learned to ride a motorcycle. I went on a trip through Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. When I returned, I wrote out on a piece of paper what I loved doing and what I knew about. The answers were coaching people to success and how small businesses achieve success. I put these together and started my business.

Why should our clients choose you?

I respect people who ask for help. In my experience, discipline is the secret to success. First, you set your goals and focus on how you help your customers solve pains or achieve gains. Then you work out how you can do this better than anyone else. Stick to this and the results will come. Writing goals out increases your chance of success by 44%. Working with a coach gets this up to 79%. If that appeals to you then we will be a good fit.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

My service is principally delivered through video calls and online.
