Becky Piggot Psychotherapy

I am a very experienced and relatable counsellor/psychotherapist and art psychotherapist, based in Corsham, Wiltshire. I am HCPC registered and fully insured. I've worked in the NHS for 10 years now, across both Crisis Teams and Community Mental Health Teams, gaining a wealth of experience in working with complex and enduring mental health issues. Here I have supported individuals to implement helpful strategies with immediate benefits, and also worked with people to facilitate longer-term recovery work and lasting positive changes. I still work part time in the NHS, where I am regional Lead, supervising and managing a team of therapists. I also work part time in private practice, specialising in trauma processing; attachment and identity issues; and improving self-esteem. My approach is very relational (which means I will be real with you, sharing my mind and my responses where I feel this is helpful). I can incorporate elements from a range of psychological approaches, including: psychodynamic psychotherapy; art psychotherapy; psycho-education; mindfulness; solution focused work; CBT and MBT. So whether you are looking for a short-term, focused piece of work, or a longer-term, more exploratory/processing therapy, I can tailor my approach to meet your needs. I am particularly skilled in helping people use their creativity as valuable way to express and process their inner experiences, which can have many advantages over just talking alone - particularly for processing early memories or feelings that are hard to put into words. This requires no specific skill or experience in art making, just an openness to give it a go. This can also bring some fun, experimentation and playfulness into your sessions, which can actually be really valuable. As much as therapy can be hard work, it also needs to be bearable, and my clients often report that they've enjoyed coming to our sessions and appreciated the moments when we can laugh together. What do you love most about your job?

I am so passionate about helping people to heal or to reach their personal goals, and I feel very honoured to do this important work with people. I am constantly in awe of the human capacity for recovery and growth, and am particularly driven by the role that creativity and a shared narrative can play in this process. I also learn so much from the inspiring individuals that I work with and it actually makes me feel hopeful about humanity! The fact that people can be kind and loving, even when they've grown up not experiencing that, I just think that's pretty incredible, and it makes me want to help people even more.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I've been working in the NHS for a long time, and whilst I still enjoy this and still do this part-time, I like the opportunity to spend more of my time seeing clients and being able to offer them therapy in a way that they have more control over.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have a wealth of experience of working with individuals from all walks of life and with a range of different mental health difficulties. I have successfully worked with clients that have picked up various diagnoses, including: eating disorders; anxiety and depression; autism; ADHD; unspecified neurological disorders; bi-polar disorder; PTSD and complex trauma; psychosis; and EUPD or borderline-personality disorder. Whilst I don't work in a diagnostic way, and it is not my role to diagnose people, I do understand the kinds of difficulties that people with these presentations can experience and I understand how services and communities often respond. Ultimately, I see most diagnoses as different expressions of unresolved human struggles, and through my work with people, I have been able to help them to understand themselves better; to feel more understood by other people; and to find compassion for themselves; while also giving them new ways to cope and express themselves. Most of my clients will report a reduction in problematic symptoms by the end of our time together and some have even got back in touch, years after our therapy, to let me know that they are still feel the benefits of our work together and that they still take comfort from the internalised "Becky voice" that continues to support them.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can offer my services remotely. If I am seeing clients for art psychotherapy remotely, they would need to source their own art materials and ideally be able to sit at a desk or table during our sessions.
