Jason Thorpe Counselling

I have an excellent track record of positive outcomes from initially complex cases. A calm and approachable manner, combined with a deep understanding of Person Centered Theory has enhanced and accelerated successful working relationships with various kinds of clients. I offer my services to assist clients in an exploration of who they are and how they view themselves in relation to what they are currently experiencing. With these insights we can then begin to define solutions towards the client achieving a more balanced and secure life and sense of self. It's important for those seeking therapy to choose a therapist that feels right for them, so please take your time! I offer the first initial session FREE OF CHARGE for this very reason. If you choose to continue your sessions they will be charged at £40 per hour. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework. BACP Registration number: 384371

What do you love most about your job?

Assisting people through difficult periods of their lives, and helping them feel heard and accepted.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Upon returning to the UK after 15 years living in rural Ethiopia, I began to experience anxiety for the first time. Having been away for so long I became overwhelmed by the environment I now found myself in. Here is where I began to take an interest in mental health, both my own and how I could possibly help others who were experiencing similar imbalances.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have an ability for establishing rapport and trust when working with clients. The thought of having therapy can be quite daunting in itself, so a calm and laid back approach in helping clients feel at ease is very necessary, as power dynamics can sometimes be present between the client and their therapist. I make an effort to balance the relationship and insure that it's a collaboration.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I'v been seeing clients online for some time now. In this way I am able to reach clients that are not in my immediate area. I hold sessions via Zoom. Once a mutually convenient time has been arranged, I email the client the invite.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I follow all the appropriate procedures to keep clients and myself safe when seeing them face to face.

This will vary according to the level of experience and training that the therapist holds.

This will depend on where you live, what level of training your therapist has and what they specialise in (whether they are a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist) and also how many years of working experience they have.

Your professional therapist will be able to advise you on the full range of therapies available and will be able to help you select the best one to suit your needs. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a trusted therapist today.

You need to devote some time to finding the right therapist as the connection you have with your therapist is essential. You need someone who you can trust, someone you feel comfortable talking to about difficult subjects and intimate secrets, someone who will be a partner in your recovery. Therapy will not be effective unless you have this bond, so take some time in the beginning to find the right person.

It is worth talking to a few potential therapists and asking questions. Therapists also have special areas of focus, such as depression or eating disorders. For some issues, such as trauma or PTSD, seeing a specialist is absolutely essential.

Everyone’s treatment is different. How long your therapy lasts depends on many factors.

You may be offered a single session of counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.

It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your trusted Bark therapist.

Professional counsellor training takes three to five years and can be a diploma or degree level. Qualification requires a minimum number of client hours acquired through a work placement.

You may also want to ask for testimonials of their recent work. You could also look at their profile page on Bark and Bark can show you reviews from past customers who have used their therapy.

Therapy has repeatedly and consistently helped patients with a whole host of issues. It can help with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. Or it can help with an upsetting physical health condition such as infertility, a difficult life event such as a bereavement or a relationship breakdown. It can also be used to tackle difficult emotions such as low self-esteem, anger or sexual identity issues. Therapists also offer couples therapy. Therapists can also help with anxiety issues deriving from the coronavirus.

Absolutely! Many therapists offer sessions over the phone or through an online video chat platform, so you can have a session from the comfort of your own home - all you need is a strong internet connection and you're good to go.
