BARK SPOTLIGHT

What do you love most about your job?

Dogs have always been a part of my life – their companionship and loyalty is unrivalled. I love meeting new people and helping them get the most out of their relationship with their dogs.

What inspired you to start your own business?

When I started helping friends (and friends of friends) with their unruly pooches, they kept saying: "You should charge for this!" So I thought, why not? I spent time and money on training courses and literature and tools and everything else to be as professional and skilled as I could and started Landela Dogs.

Why should our clients choose you?

I pride myself on clarity and understanding. I often come to people who say: "Wow, our first trainer told us to do that but we never understood why, so we didn't realise why it was important." Communication is the key to everything I do. From my conversations with you, to your commands to your dog, to what your dog is actually trying to communicate to you. Once we're all speaking the same language, everything is easier!

Annie Riordan reviewed Home Counties Dog Training

Terry came out to us after we took on a rescue dog who was nearly a year old. This poor boy had not had any basic training or socialisation skills but showed that he was willing to learn. Terry taught both him and us some fantastic training skills to enable us all to live and learn together. We now have a much loved family member who is living amongst kids, cats, rabbits and small furries. Would recommend Terry fully and have passed his details onto others I know have since used his services.

Emma Thorp reviewed Home Counties Dog Training

Terry is a down to earth fella. He is good at his job. He has helped me out with two of my dogs and is really committed to the animals and what's best for them. His services are reasonably priced – and you get what you pay for with excellent service.

Inna Wilcock reviewed Oli Juste Dog Trainer & Behaviourist

Oli has exceptional understanding of dogs, their character and motives. He is very good-natured person, patient and calm during the lesson. One can see results almost immediately, as the dog's response to his training approach is amazing.

Eileen Coulter reviewed Oli Juste Dog Trainer & Behaviourist

I contacted Oli to help me with my ball obsessed dog, Eric. He would also yelp in a consistently incredibly high pitched (ear piercing!) tone any time I let him off the lead, or he met any people he was particularly excited to see. Oli arrived with an immediate aura of calm and patience, which Eric responded to immediately. He taught me training techniques and an understanding of doggy body language. With his warm, calm, quiet and patient manner he's worked wonders for Eric and myself.

reviewed Lucky's Friends Ltd

Poppy had the pleasure of staying with Lucky and his owner, Rock. She had the best of times while we went away. Everyday we were updated on what poppy was up to, which gave us peace of mind, was even sent pictures. I would like to thank Lucky for keeping poppy entertained – even though she found other things to be interested in – and a huge thank you to Rock and his partner for allowing Poppy into your home and taking great care of her.

Amit reviewed Lucky's Friends Ltd

The service provided by Lucky's Friends is first class. We have three dogs (an adult and two pups – all Jack Russell terriers) which was a real handful to manage. Bringing in Shahrokh from Lucky's Friends has been a godsend. The pups have become responsive to command and much better behaved within a few weeks. Further, the advice and guidance from Lucky's Friends ensures that you become a more confident dog owner too.

Clare reviewed it's a dog's life

Even though we only saw Penny twice, she massively helped by training us on how to get our 7-month-old toy poodle, Lola, to stop jumping 'up', 'stay', 'wait' and do 'recall' consistently. Penny's practical-yet-effective approach is testament to the fact we only had to see her twice. We would highly recommend her and are delighted with the quick results.

Victoria reviewed it's a dog's life

I was having behavioural problems with my young English Bull Terrier, Doris... Penny asked for the whole family including the children to be there for the consultation. We were very impressed with the time she took to understand how the family operated and how Doris fitted in. We explained the problems we were having and Penny came up with clear, positive advice as to how to resolve them ourselves. We are delighted with the results and things are improving by the day.

Penelope Middelboe reviewed LANDELA DOGS

Very impressed with Thuli's way with dogs. She taught a dominant, aggressive young male Husky-cross how to live peacefully alongside a Labrador bitch and a male cat – and how to interact with unknown dogs out on walks. She improved his recall and got him used to strangers coming into the house. I thoroughly recommend Landela Dogs. Her calm Labrador Willow is a great sidekick.

Hilary reviewed LANDELA DOGS

Thuli has helped us so much with our retriever's behaviour. Dixie took to her immediately and Thuli's advice about handling her aggression and her behaviour in general is sensible, practical and effective. We feel so lucky to have found her and we have learnt so much from her. Thanks, Thuli!

Valerie Aprile reviewed ModelDogs

My experience with you has been very helpful. I was completely lacking in confidence in training my puppy. Georgina Bleza has helped me a lots. She's restored my confidence with my puppy helped me to set a proper environment for my dog. She has a gentle, kind and professional attitude. I'll recommend her to a friend!

Amy reviewed ModelDogs

It didn't take long to discover how fantastic Georgie is as a dog trainer. Thanks to her expert advice in her 1-to-1 puppy course, our dog learned practical commands and we know how to deal with common puppy issues. I recommend her highly.

Skylar Rose reviewed The Decorous Dog

Lily worked with me to assist with Bo, a highly strung and nervous Wheaten Terrier. She was quickly able to assess and prioritise the behavioural issues that needed the greatest attention whilst also putting into place training techniques that would be beneficial further down the line. It was clear from the first session that Lily has a natural rapport with dogs and an ability to tap into their individual needs. Basically, she speaks dog!

reviewed The Decorous Dog

Only had initial visit so far. Lily is very professional and has studied dog behaviour. She is very personable and calm. After our first meeting we have lots of things to teach our dog that make a lot of sense and feel, finally, that we can move forward with our dog.

Julia reviewed ARC Dog Rehab

Thank you Alan. I feel we had a very productive but relaxed afternoon of training with you. Look forward to establishing all the techniques, and appreciate your ongoing support. Would recommend your service.

I’m Penny and like many of us, have been around dogs all my life and simply couldn't envisage life without them. When I began training in the Eighties, for dogs it was a world of harsh methods, choke chains and Barbara Woodhouse ruled the roost. Thankfully today most good dog trainers and instructors use modern, kind methods, based on positive reinforcement not punishment. Resulting in a fantastic relationship with your best friend based on trust and mutual respect; not fear. I am a Canine Behaviourist and an advocate of clicker training. Dogworthy Training and Behaviour
Dogworthy Training and Behaviour

Dogworthy offers Puppy Classes based in Greenford, Middlesex. Socialisation is so important at an early age, but it must be good socialisation. Our classes are fun and informative, and you can learn the basics of training your puppy, and they can learn to interact with other dogs in a safe, controlled manner. We also offer 121 services for training and behavioural issues. We can come to your home or you can come to us, or we can meet in a mutually acceptable location. These services come with full email write-ups and telephone support. For fun, we also offer 121 sessions for trick-training - exciting new ways to interact with your dog. Great for a gift for a loved one - impress your friends by teaching your old (or young) dog new tricks! We don't offer board to train packages as we feel that issues are most often due to the circumstances of the dog. When the dog is returned to those circumstances the issues often return. It is just as important to train the owner as the dog. That said, we can offer training walks without you present, for example while you are at work, as long as this is in conjunction with owner-based training.

Group dog training classes will give you an opportunity to train and socialize your dog in a professional but friendly and relaxed environment. You will also be able to speak to the owners of other rehomed dogs and hear of their experiences. There are usually 3 trainers available here so you will surely feel looked after and your questions will be answered. Dates for 2015: 24/10; 07/11; 21/11; 05/12; 19/12 All ages, all breeds and types even problem dogs can be accommodated – please enquiry by email / phone if unsure. Please note that due to my busy schedule of shows, demos and competitions, I can’t always be at all of these classes but alternative arrangements have been made for each session and there’ll be a trainer/s present to help you along the way. ________________________________________ Open Air Mixed-Abilities Socialisation Class in Hendon: Sunny Hill Park, NW4, open-air socialisation mixed-abilities classes will also run on the same dates, starting at 12 noon. Each session is an hour and ¾ long, and is currently free of charge. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=522648&y=190339&z=110&sv=522648,190339&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=521&ax=522648&ay=190339&lm=0 (Street Map) This is a "train-yourself" class, where we try to give you as much guidance and advice, with a format of a social gathering, or a Club Meeting of the Good Boys out in an open air. Many return trainees pop in to brush up on their dog training and some newcomers choose to bring a chair and observe what and how it's done the Handfeeding way! Please feel welcome at all of our group classes! Dates are as above. Disclaimer: Dog Training is a magical experience, but it takes time (and, most importantly, patience, skills and devotion) so please do not expect an instant fix! We will not use any strong aversive stimuli at the classes, and will ask you to remove and never use anywhere around us any chock-chain, pinch-collar or e-device if you are using one. Please expect to make some progress, but do listen to what is being told at the class. Taking it slowly and at your level is highly advisable, take a note of the homework exercises and break the session down into bite-size fragments to suit you and your pet. Come prepared – we are a Handfeeding School, and most reward-based methods would go a long way with us, but if your ideas on dog training are about dominating your dog, forcing them to work and just punishing bad behaviours – I am afraid we are not the school for you! Please come and observe, we never charge anyone spectating, as long as they do not bring dogs as spreading the word and educating the public is our prime target! ________________________________________ Dog Walking We can also help with your busy schedule and take care of your precious hounds on daily basis. We all need to get going in order to remain sane, and to keep fit, both physically and mentally. So do our dogs too! We also believe in professional help with behavioural issues, huge part of which could be reinforced during our daily exercise in busy social and regularly changing environment. So whatever the reason for your enquiry, give it a try, and I am confident that you will like all the benefits: our skills, professionalism, reliability and the results. We are also proud to be the only registered, approved, Kennel Club listed and insured walking round and training School around – and even with all this in mind I am sure you will not find a cheaper help elsewhere. We invite all our customers to come for a pre-booking visit to help you with that important decision, after all, your dog is a family for you, and we want to assure you that the same goes here. Prices for these services are listed below, but please do not hesitate to ask us for a breakdown may you need it: Walks are held in some gorgeous spots of Hampstead, Hendon, Golders Green or Welsh Harp and neighbouring areas, and are 90 minutes long. Together with drive there and back your dog is prone to be tired and stimulated, so why not give us a try if you’ve never been on our walk yourself – we always have a few friends joining us on these walks, and seeing so many well-behaved dogs walking and playing together is something you will proudly talk about for months to come! And don’t forget the camera – you have not seen anything like this! We currently have 3 equipped and ventilated vans on the road at all times meaning that you are covered all year round, Monday to Friday with no exceptions, and we do work on all public and bank holidays. At the moment we have a few vacancies on our Dog Walking Round. Single dog One-off walk - £15 flat fee, incl. collection and delivery (offer on week’s booking - £65) Two dogs (same household) Walk - £15 for each dog (offer on regular week’s booking - £110 for two dogs) Also, speak to us if your dogs are smaller and well behaved And the “dirty” part now: We are not the “pavement-walking” or “I don’t do rain”-group – we all go cross-country, mud-sliding, speed-of-light running and dog-paddling on our various walks and swims in and around North and North-West London in any weather. So if you are waiting for your pet to arrive from the walk dry and clean, make sure you have a towel waiting for him/her at home. Or we would be happy to make arrangements to have your dog washed by a professional at the end of the run if you authorise us to do so. And come and meet the Team! See you there! Dog Crèche You might have a long schedule at work, or just want to go out for a day. Don’t leave your pet sitting there looking at a clock for hours – I am sure he/she’d rather go out too and spend time with friends. Day’s fee - £25 (£35 for 2 dogs) Late stays at no extra pay. Overnight stay Lives at times take over, and I know myself how important it is to relax and not worry about your loved ones. Well, you can not drop your husband here I am afraid, but we can certainly help you with your pooch. Please enquire about our prices and arrangements and please visit the website for more information on it all! All ages, all breeds and types even difficult dogs can be accommodated. (We may advise you on a one-to-one walks if your dog requires a bit of help socialising to start with, but one of our experienced handlers will be able to speed things up so your dog will be able to join the group in no time!) Basic and on-going training will be provided to all dogs involved free of charge - after all, there's a reason we are this popular – our pack is our pride and joy! Please see our website www.dimadogs.com or www.goodboydogschool.co.uk for more on it. ________________________________________ So you want to see what we do and how? K9 COMPANION
K9 COMPANION

At K9 Companion we pride ourselves in providing a first class service for you and your dog. Since childhood I have always been the proud owner of a dog and I know how important it is to create an everlasting bond between you and your companion dog. After completing my degree, I travelled extensively around the world, visiting places like Alaska and Canada which gave me an insight in the behaviour of all types of animals in the wild. It was on the trip to Canada that I was fortunate to see the work of mushers with huskies and malamutes. This experience made me fall in love with these artic breeds and not only I became the owner of a husky but made me think of a change in career. For a couple of years, I was able to shadow an experienced husky trainer in the UK. This allowed me to learn and apply tried and tested techniques to my dog training. Now, I have my lead dog (Luna) and I am also gaining relevant dog training qualifications, furthering my training on canine behaviour and positive training.

Simply Behaviour
Simply Behaviour

My name is Georgie and I have been a dog trainer and certified behaviourist for over 10 years. I specialise in behaviour modification using applied psychological techniques. I work with reward based methodology with a particular passion for techniques that give the dog free choice (the most effective way to learn) and reduce stress. Communication between dog and owner is something I go through with you at great length as well as giving you tips on how to read your dog's behaviour. I show you how to set up the training and environment so that you can change your relationship with you dog and this provides a wonderful platform for reinforcement. Most of my clients work with me for the long term and I am the go to person for organisations such as the IAABC and the ISCP. I write and publish articles that educate trainers and behaviourists. I work at Portsmouth University in their dog social cognition projects and use social learning to find out information about the prosocial behaviour of dogs (it’s brilliant fun). I also work at a college which specialises in teaching children with learning disabilities. I am certified as an applied behaviourist with ABTC and IAABC and an affiliate of the ISCP. Please take a look at my biography if you want to find out more www.simplybehaviour.com/bio/ My typical approach is to have an initial telephone conversation to establish what fits with your needs and those of the dog. I am flexible in what we can do and most people traditionally would like to have a full consultation and/or training session. Behaviour referrals would require us to get a simple referral from your vet (this is a requirement for any certified professional in this industry) and then we can rule out any medical reasons why the behaviour might be occurring. Some cases may not require a vet referral and these will probably fall into the training category. Please note: some insurance companies will pay up to £500 towards your behaviour costs, this is why we need to get a referral letter from your vet and it should be the vet you are registered with. Training I offer 1-2-1 and online training courses for dog owners (and trainers). Not all dogs thrive in a classroom setting and my preference is to help you train your dog in the context that he will be living. So, I tend to start a session at the house (low distracting environment) and then help you out on walks and in other places (this is great fun) and much more practical than being in a classroom. I can help with socialisation too and this is best achieved in the setting in which it will occur. Owner training I use a 5 point task technique (which breaks the information down into bite size pieces) for each behaviour we work with and employ a technique call Tagteach. This is the most effective way to teach dog owners (according to the evidence). I help you to learn the skills to teach your dog yourself. I provide a fun interactive training pack with training schedules and charts which are great for kids and the whole family. I like to train as a team with people so that everyone can get rewarded for their efforts and it is the most effective way to progress and have consistency. Please call me between the hours of 9am-8pm Mon-Sun on 01252724772 Or email me on: info@simplybehaviour.com My website is: www.simplybehaviour.com A list of my cheap affordable courses for dog owners can be found here: http://www.simplybehaviour.com/owner-courses/ Each course is around £10 and they are certificated. Please note: You will get free access to these courses when we start working with each other so that you can benefit from my experience and knowledge going forward. I am friendly, easygoing and professional. I pride myself on being able to give impartial, non-judgemental advice. Each case is kept confidential. My training sessions are often videoed for my own understanding and development. These are often useful to watch back so we can track progress and make sure we have not missed anything with our training. These videos are often shown to other professionals for the purposes of education and to help identify ways in which we can help your dog. I would be delighted to speak to you about the best way we can help and look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Force free dog training. 1 to 1 and group classes. Full member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers. Dogs respond best to training when they're having a swell time. With force-free dog training and positive reinforcement, you can train your pet to be a delight whilst keeping things fun. If neither you or your dog are enjoying any element of the learning process, we will have failed you. Avoid the tosh of aversive training and you and your pet will achieve more. Puppy training doesn't need to mean shocks, shouting or squirting water; neither does it mean choking, prongs or dominance over your dog. I've laid off these outdated practices in favour of keeping things fair and force-free. With dog classes that keep fun at the fore, your dog will be faced with challenges that make it easy for your four-legged friend to succeed, but difficult enough to provide them with challenging mental stimulation.

Peaceful Pups
Peaceful Pups

Peaceful Pups offers personal training for you, your family and your dog. We're here to help you have the perfect dog for you. One that knows the house rules and what behaviour is expected from him. After all it is your home, your dog and, therefore, your rules. Dog owning has moved on in recent years and instead of a dog pottering around the home, we now want them to be part of the family, come with us on days out, holidays and when we pop down to the local pub garden in the summer. Your puppy is perfectly capable of learning how to behave in all these situations and we will help show you how to teach him. It's not difficult and you will only need to practise for a few minutes each day. Each training consultation is tailored for you, your family and your dog. It doesn't matter whether you have a puppy or adult dog, we can help. If you are getting a new puppy soon and want to make sure you are ready, we'll be able to help you get over the first few weeks and start off on the right foot. If you have small children, we can also help them understand how to behave around your puppy so that your puppy doesn't get mixed messages and we can do this using role play. Once you have your puppy, we will work with you teaching your puppy what you want. So if you want your puppy to learn not to rush out that open front door and to let your children play without having a bouncing puppy join in, then we can help. If you have an older dog who has a few bad habits, we can help you eliminate them and turn the chaos to calm. If you think we may be able to help, just drop me a quick email and I'll get back to you soon.
