Choosing a pet groomer with Bark

When handing your furry friend over to a dog and cat groomer, you want to be sure they can be trusted to look after your pet. Reading the available reviews will help to put your mind at ease. Choosing an experienced groomer will ensure your pet returns looking clean and fresh, with a shiny, waggy tail.

Some pet groomers can work with a range of animals. If you have a cat, rabbit, or even a chameleon that needs a nail trim, tell us about them when you place a request. Chances are, there is someone out there who can help.

Extended pet services

Is your dog set to be the next champion at Crufts? Or do you have a horse that is getting ready for a show-jumping competition? Some pet groomers specialise in getting animals show-ready, a service that goes beyond grooming for maintenance. If you have a terrier that needs its fur hand-stripped, rather than clipped, be sure to include this in your initial request. This will help us to find the right groomer in London for you.

What to expect

Some pet grooming services take place in the comfort of the groomer’s home. But mobile units are becoming more popular, especially in London. You don’t even have to leave the house to get your pampered pet looking their best. Let us know how they are with other animals and if they enjoy the grooming process. This will enable your chosen pet groomer to work around these needs.

What inspired you to start your own pet grooming business?

I’ve been a hairdresser since I left school, but I wasn’t inspired by the work and felt unfulfilled. I’ve always loved animals and already had the ability to work with different varieties of hair. So I took the dog grooming course and my business has grown from there!

What other pet grooming services can you offer your clients?

I’m not just a dog groomer, which people always assume. I often work with cats and bunnies too. I can turn my hand to almost any type of furry pet. The most unusual animal I’ve worked with would have to be a marmoset monkey, which was incredibly cute but extremely mischievous!

What experience do you have?

I completed my course in 2012 and started my business via word-of-mouth advertising only. Since then, my business has really grown and I’ve gained invaluable experience with all manner of different animals. My most regular customers are dogs and I’ve worked with almost every breed imaginable!

How often your dog needs to be groomed will depend on the breed of dog and the length of its hair. On average, a dog should be groomed around once a month. However, dogs with longer coats will need grooming more regularly whilst dogs with shorter coats may not need grooming as often. It’s important to groom a young dog or puppy regularly so that they become used to being groomed and to avoid future problems.

Although many pet groomers have a set location that they operate from, there are also many mobile pet groomers. These groomers operate from a van which is equipped with all of the equipment required for grooming. They will park outside your home and groom your pet within the van.

How long it takes to groom a dog will depend on the breed of the dog and the length of its hair. On average, it takes around 2 hours to fully groom a dog. However, for dogs with long, thick hair, it could take significantly longer, whilst for dogs with short hair it may be faster.
