What do you love most about your job?

I love my job because it is my passion. My business as Together Dog Training enables me to use the best of myself. I combine my long experience as a teacher working in challenging fields with my passion for working with dogs and their people.
I love to see the joy on the faces of clients, when their dog makes progess. I love to see dogs enjoy training because I use positive techniques. Yes, this is highly skilled, but it is my mission to ensure that clients understand how to and can train their dog to make changes that create a better life for dogs and humans together.
I love to see the videos that clients send me and how proud they are with their dog's acheivements.
I specialise in Fear and Aggression in dogs but I don't love these things, I love dismantling them, step by step. I have shed a tear (or two!) when clients cry with relief when they realise there is help for their dog and there is much that can be done. I have laughed and laughed with clients because dogs can be just so funny sometimes.
I love it that I can bring skills, knowledge and experience to dogs and their people. I love it that clients trust and allow me into their lives. I love it when I say "Case Closed" because it means a person and their dog are confident and happy together.

What inspired you to start your own business?

When my puppy became fearful of seemingly everything, I found it very difficult to find the qualified help we needed. As her world became a scary place, I felt confused, upset and honestly baffled and just didn't know what to do. She was my ninth dog and I'd never experienced anything like this. We went on quite a journey! I was deeply honored to be accepted into the Academy for Dog Trainers to study with Jean Donaldson in the USA. This is a world renowned programme taking on very few students each year. It was pretty scary at first, many of the world's leading lights in dog training are Academy Graduates, so I was surrounded by the very best knowledge, academic acheivement and complete dedication to the highest level of education in technique, behaviour and most importantly client counselling. As a very experienced teacher, I now combine my knowledge, skills and experience of both species to deliver the highest level of dog training and behaviour modification to owners who require help and support with their dog. I made a promise to myself that I would not let others feel as I did five years ago. It's taken a lifetime to gather this level of expertise, please use it!

Why should our clients choose you?

Having once been in the position of needing to find a dog trainer with the right knowledge myself, I understand how difficult and worrisome the process can be. I have set-up Together Dog Training to be a completely transparent business, so you will always know the what's and why's and how's of our work together. Transparency in dog training is vital, as dog training and behaviour counselling for dogs is an unregulated profession, and anyone can set themselves up without education, knowledge or skills.
Together Dog Training is Force Free, this means that I don't use any aversive means that scare, startle, push, pull or frighten your dog in anyway. This is important as using any of these techniques can cause harm and long lasting fear or aggression. This isn't me just saying this, the connections between using force to train a dog or modify their behaviour and harmful outcomes are scientifically demonstrated.
Together Dog Training's services are client centred and completely tailored to your needs, so you can be sure you are paying for the most effective and efficent means to work with the issues that are presented. I am well aware that training and behaviour modification are an investment in time and money, but that commitment and investment pays off with life-long change.
I am held to the highest professional standards as a Graduate of the Academy for Dog Trainers, as a Fear Free Animal Trainer and a Full Member of the Pet Professional Guild. My background as a teacher in challenging fields, along with my education and experience in dog training and counselling ensure that you will receive the most highly skilled training and behaviour modifcation. Having been there myself, I don't underestimate what it feels like to have difficulties with your dog. Each and every client and their dog is treasured.
