I am a BACP Registered counsellor and my approach is Person-Centred. I qualified in 2017 and have been building my own practice ever since. The vast and heavy commitment of training to be a qualified counsellor meant hundreds of hours training with many essays and case studies. I completed my training with the mental health charity Mind which gave me a wide experience of many different people, their difficulties and how these struggles affect daily lives so deeply.
I offer life, work or academic coaching and counselling helping people in three main ways: 1) personal issues: life struggles, relationships, anxiety, low mood, low motivation, stress, loneliness, feeling worthless or life feeling meaningless. 2) work issues: leadership, managing change, difficult/ethical decisions, conflict, career direction, reaching your full potential and building a team to achieve goals. 3) academic tutoring: returning to studies/ academic writing, support to obtain a good undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate degree. I am qualified to postgraduate diploma level in counselling/ psychotherapy, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and hold a doctorate in ethical approaches that help people make and lead sustainable change. This is a flavour of the feedback I have received: “His support was invaluable to me. We met regularly to discuss personal and work problems. I was supported to start my BSc and then continued to support me with the academic level that was required. This give me confidence and increased my self-esteem. I finished my degree with a first-class honours. He continues to support me with life choices and other difficulties” “I cannot emphasise enough the high quality that I feel we have had from them. It’s a long time since I have felt so intellectually challenged and enjoyed learning so much.”
Supporting people in their desire to change, making a workplace a thriving environment for them and colleagues and bringing wider wellbeing to their communities.
Leaving jobs in large organisations (Aerospace, NHS and University) with a combination of skills to offer people on a one to one basis.
I bring a wealth of experience and have been trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches with the foundational approach being Person Centred. This method of therapy is based on the view that everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change, given the right conditions. Rather than being seen as the expert and directing the therapy, I offer the environment to help you understand challenging thoughts or feelings and develop your own way to solutions.
My training also included the following approaches:
Cognitive Behavioural and Brief Therapy based on the belief that your unwanted or unhealthy behaviours are a learned response to your past experiences and the way you think. This would focus on current problems and aim to help you learn new, more positive ways of thinking and behaviours without having to analyse the past.
Coaching supports individuals, teams or groups in achieving greater self-awareness, improved self-management skills and increased self-efficacy, so that you can develop your own goals and solutions. It is a collaborative, conversation-based process, which emphasises and builds on your existing and developing strengths. It is often focused on supporting you in making changes, either to how things are at present or to your near and distant future.
Gestalt looks at the individual as a whole, and within their surroundings, rather than breaking things into parts. Practitioners help you to focus on the here and now and your immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour to better understand how you relate to others and to situations. This can help you find a new, positive perspective on problems and bring about changes in your life.
Transactional Analysis is a comprehensive approach which incorporates aspects of humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapy. It categorises the human personality into three states – Parent, Adult and Child – which can help you understand how you interact with others. We would look at how your beliefs and the way you interpret the world around you can create recurrent and problematic patterns of behaviour, and will work with you to help you to change.
Academic Coaching/ Tutoring to help you find a clear pathway to achieve a first degree or a post graduate degree. I can provide support on all aspects of your work (study skills, research, course work, exam prep and associated tasks) that would complement and add extra input to achieve your academic aims.
Work Coaching in leadership, managing change, difficult/ethical decisions, conflict management, career direction, reaching your full potential and building a team to achieve goals.
I am an eclectic practitioner and can apply a specific style of therapy or use a combination from the above approaches according to what works best for you. I can combine coaching with therapeutic support or offer this as a separate service. We can discuss your preferences at our first meeting and adapt along the way if necessary.
