Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, unconscious patterns and relationships influence present thoughts and behaviour. Bark helps you find qualified psychodynamic psychotherapists across the UK who offer a reflective, in-depth approach to therapy. Whether you’re seeking long-term support or exploring deeper emotional patterns, you can connect with professionals who work at your pace.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy often includes:
Sessions are usually held weekly and focus on creating a safe, confidential space for reflection and growth.
You might consider psychodynamic therapy if you are:
Look for therapists who are properly trained and registered with recognised UK professional bodies. Experience, approach, session frequency and comfort level all matter. Many therapists offer an initial consultation to help you decide whether the approach feels right for you.
Bark data suggests that private psychodynamic psychotherapy with a qualified therapist typically costs between £70 and £120+ per session, depending on experience, location and session frequency in the UK. Therapists in London often charge at the higher end of this range.
Lower-cost options are sometimes available, such as £25–£40 per session with trainee therapists or through organisations offering concessionary rates. Session fees and availability vary, so it’s best to discuss pricing directly with a therapist.
Some forms of psychodynamic therapy are available through NHS talking therapy services, but access and session length can be limited. Many people choose private therapy for flexibility and continuity.
Psychodynamic therapy is often medium- to long-term. Some people attend for several months, while others continue for a year or longer, depending on their goals.

Vicky is fantastic. She’s a great listener and has helped me tremendously over our sessions.

How do I even begin to find the words to describe how awesome Simon is as The Dynamic Therapist? My partner and I had hit crisis point. We were big party people who decided to settle down and have a family. Life was great, until it wasn't. As life threw one thing after another at us, we slowly began to fall apart. What we now understand were "growing pains" were still hanging over us, and we were finding it hard to let go of the lifestyle we'd previously led. Every weekend we'd promise ourselves we'd do better, yet every weekend we'd repeat the same negative routine. Then we'd spend most of the following week hating ourselves until about Thursday, once we'd finally caught up on sleep, when the whole cycle would start again. Throw in the usual mix of childhood issues on both sides, and we were at breaking point. I got Simon's number from a mum friend while standing in tears in the school playground. From the moment I spoke to him, he was kind, reassuring, and instantly made me feel better. My partner and I both booked consultations straight away, and the ball was rolling. From our very first session, Simon made me feel comfortable, heard, and understood without judgment. As a mum, admitting you're struggling or making choices you're not proud of can feel terrifying. You want help, but not at the risk of people questioning your ability as a parent. I trusted him immediately. His compassion, understanding, and supportive approach have helped me work through my own personal challenges, but they've also given my partner and me a fresh start. The work he's done with us individually has helped reunite us, not only as a couple but as a team. Simon isn't your typical "airy fairy" counsellor. He's more like a mate you'd chat to down the pub, which was exactly what we needed. Someone relatable. Someone normal. You can laugh, swear, cry, or sit quietly while you process things, and he's completely comfortable with all of it. He asks the right questions and offers insights that genuinely make you stop and think. Every session feels constructive, and I always leave feeling lighter, more positive, and better equipped to move forward. Although he's completely professional and clearly runs a successful business, the sessions never feel corporate or transactional. He never clock-watches and always gives you the time and space you need to leave feeling satisfied and complete. He's empathetic, genuinely cares about his clients, and isn't afraid to share his own experiences and behavioural patterns when appropriate, which only makes him more relatable. The support I've received has made a significant difference to my life, and I am incredibly grateful for his guidance. Alongside the talking sessions, we've also been listening to his anti-anxiety tracks, which are brilliant when life feels overwhelming or when you simply need to switch off and relax. Having them there whenever you need them is such a powerful tool, and they've been fantastic for helping with sleep. We've both used them regularly and will continue to do so. After experiencing some of his hypnotherapy during our sessions, there's a little part of me that genuinely wonders whether he's tapped into some higher power or whether he's actually some kind of magician. Either way, he's a walking superhero in my eyes! I would wholeheartedly recommend Simon to anyone looking for a supportive, empathetic, straight-talking, and effective therapist. What he's helped us achieve in just a few months is incredible. We will forever be grateful for the role he's played in helping us get back on track and guiding us towards becoming better versions of ourselves. Knowing he's only ever a phone call or message away if life gets difficult again brings me huge comfort. Thank you, Simon, for being the amazing human that you are!!

I started working with Vicky a while ago, but had a bad fear of flying and after working with Vicky I can now say I feel excited about flying rather than the dread and panic I once felt, definitely recommend
