Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, unconscious patterns and relationships influence present thoughts and behaviour. Bark helps you find qualified psychodynamic psychotherapists across the UK who offer a reflective, in-depth approach to therapy. Whether you’re seeking long-term support or exploring deeper emotional patterns, you can connect with professionals who work at your pace.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy often includes:
Sessions are usually held weekly and focus on creating a safe, confidential space for reflection and growth.
You might consider psychodynamic therapy if you are:
Look for therapists who are properly trained and registered with recognised UK professional bodies. Experience, approach, session frequency and comfort level all matter. Many therapists offer an initial consultation to help you decide whether the approach feels right for you.
Bark data suggests that private psychodynamic psychotherapy with a qualified therapist typically costs between £70 and £120+ per session, depending on experience, location and session frequency in the UK. Therapists in London often charge at the higher end of this range.
Lower-cost options are sometimes available, such as £25–£40 per session with trainee therapists or through organisations offering concessionary rates. Session fees and availability vary, so it’s best to discuss pricing directly with a therapist.
Some forms of psychodynamic therapy are available through NHS talking therapy services, but access and session length can be limited. Many people choose private therapy for flexibility and continuity.
Psychodynamic therapy is often medium- to long-term. Some people attend for several months, while others continue for a year or longer, depending on their goals.

"Attending these sessions has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The approach is kind, patient, and incredibly helpful. I’ve learned so much about how to cope and handle situations better. Truly professional and compassionate. My sessions have provided me with the tools and clarity I needed to move forward. It is such a relief to have a non-judgmental space to talk things through. I would absolutely recommend Catherine to anyone looking for support." Thank you for everything Catherine.

Catherine was amazing, we found our sessions with her so useful. She gave us strategies to take away each week so it really had impact. We found her so easy to talk to and open up too. Would recommend to anyone looking for couple counselling!
