Kieron and the team have been professional from the minute I enrolled Evie for extra tuition. The sessions are structured and very informative which resulted in Evie gaining significant improvement in her English and Maths. In addition to this, once the announcements were made that the GCSE’s were cancelled this year, the team were exemplary with their support and mobilisation of an online tutoring platform, extensive support with regards to A level preparation. We can not recommend Arlen enough.

Three months ago I sat in Deborah's office in tears because my son was so far behind in reading and writing and I felt like I had failed him. I was so relieved when she told me it would be ok and she can help him. Fast forward 3 months and my reluctant struggling reader is making amazing progress he loves going to Deborah and the change in him is incredible I know he will continue to go from strength to strength. From the bottom of my heart I thank you x

• Is your child struggling to get good grades in English? • Do they feel out of their depth? If so, then I can help. Learning to read between the lines and interpret what the writer is trying to say is a skill that has to be learned. Identifying the techniques and devices used and showing how you can use them yourself in the writing part is paramount. The ability to write an original, creative and technically correct piece in each of the language papers, represents 50% of the final mark in the language exam. You cannot afford to get that wrong. I work with both AQA and Edexcel exam boards. My passion for literature comes across very strongly in my teaching - I have found I manage to get teenage boys excited about poetry - who would have thought? The texts I currently offer are: Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Jekyll and Hyde, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol, Lord of the Flies, and the Power and Conflict and Conflict anthologies in Poetry. If your child needs help with their GCSE English exams, I have 20 years teaching experience, with two years online tutoring. None of my students have failed the exams and most improve by at least two grades. I have an enhanced DBS for your peace of mind. I offer one to one lessons but I also run short courses in specific areas of the language and literature papers. Please contact me if you require any more information.
The light bulb moment - when a student realises they can do it and do it well. Often a lack of confidence in their ability is the problem; belief in themselves is key to success (and a little bit of training!)
Since switching to online teaching, I have the ability to help students anywhere. In addition to my existing online students, I had two face to face students, this year, who had to move abroad with their parent's job; we switched to online and there was no break in tuition. I love the fact that if anything crops up - I can change the plan, open documents and share them online - something I wouldn't have been able to do in the face to face situation.
As a child, all I wanted to do was teach, but I was told that I was a bit stupid and couldn't hope to get a degree so I should "get married and have children"! So I did. But in my 30s I went back to school; I did an A-level, then a degree whilst continuing to work full time and supporting three children as a single parent. No-one should be written off the way I was. Over the years I have seen children blossom and grow with confidence and the determination to succeed. The 2020 "exam" results were unfair to a lot of children, especially those who seem to "pull it out of the bag" at the last minute. But at least every single one I taught passed, even the borderline ones, with a lot of 7, 8 and 9 grades at the top.
I will focus on exactly what your child needs to succeed. Ever heard the expression "You don't know what you don't know"? I do know what is needed to pass the English GCSEs. Science and maths students, especially, struggle with English, because they like right and wrong answers - English just doesn't work in the same way.
I offer a free, half hour lesson prior to you committing. This helps you to see whether I am the right person to teach your child, and I can assess where they are going to need some help.
I only offer online tuition. Neither of us then have to venture out on cold, dark, wet evenings - seems hard to imagine in the summer months, but trust me, come October / November you will appreciate being at home in the warm! It also saves time - in the past I have spent so much time sitting in rush hour traffic queues, whereas now I just take my cup of tea into the office and log on.
I used to do a mixture of face to face and online teaching, but since the Covid-19 pandemic, it is just online. Some teachers find it difficult to build a mutually trusting relationship online, but I find it reasonably easy. There are always situations where it does not work and that's why I offer the free half hour taster - we can check each other out!
