I work with people of all ages to overcome what I like to call the stuck factor or writers block in their lives. It's quite a broad term, but when we're stuck we can feel angry, withdrawn and far from happy. I help people who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, depression or sleep deprivation, leaving them feeling stuck, lost and or under confident and in need of a helping hand to get back in control of their lives. You may in need of general help, or you may have a specific issue to tackle, or just one health issue thats getting you down, we can work on what ever you want each session - they are yours after all! I work flexibly working from early to late and also online, so I can usually fit clients in around their schedules. I may sound busy, but I only see a limited number of clients a week so I can continue with volunteer work elsewhere. What do you love most about your job?

I love watching clients change from shy, tired and unhappy souls to blossoming characters who are ready to take on the world and able to cope with whatever they put their minds too. It's so rewarding facilitating that change and knowing the changes they make now will stay with them for life. We work quickly too, much faster than many other therapies, so the rewards come very quickly.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I used hypnobirthing techniques when I had my children, and after a motorbike accident, I was left with nerve damage in my leg. I didn't realise it at the time, but I started using the pain management techniques I'd learnt from hypnobirthing, and eventually learnt to control the pain, allowing my to stop taking pain medication.

I taught for 10 years, and saw the effects that poor mental health has on both adults and young people and wanted to make a difference in their lives, a difference I was already making by using Solution Focused Therapy techniques in the class room.

I'd seen so many colleagues and students break under the stress and worry they were unable to cope with and after teaching many of them different solution focused coping techniques, I decided that I should spend more time helping people who felt lost or hopeless.

Firstly, you'll have a conversation with your therapist to discuss what you hope to achieve and agree on what methods your therapist will use. The duration of therapy will really be dependent on your circumstances and issues. Some people may require a longer-term approach with regular weekly sessions. Your hypnotherapist will let you know how many sessions they feel you might need when you start therapy and will be flexible when it comes to decreasing or extending the number of sessions according to your progress and needs.

There are currently no guidelines in place stipulating the training and qualifications a hypnotherapist must have in order to practice. Industry guidelines recommend that individuals should have completed at least an appropriate diploma or have completed a course that involved a minimum of 450 learning hours, of which 120 hours must have been face-to-face.
