Life In Action

We work with a wide range of clients both local to Grantham and across the county including Newark, Boston and Sleaford and surrounding villages. Our range of services include counselling and psychotherapy right through to professional personal coaching and long term mentoring. If you are seeking help to find a better understanding of yourself, others including your close family members and partners as well as any major life events, this may be the time to talk to a professionally trained counsellor who can support you through your difficulties. We offer marriage counselling and couples relationship support both in helping you to communicate better, love more and fight less. Depending on your needs we can develop a plan that is right for you. Counselling or psychotherapy could lead to significant and lasting beneficial changes in your life. It can provide invaluable support through crisis or change, and can help you to handle challenge, improve relationships, reduce feelings of anxiety or depression and increase your self-confidence. We integrate a range of therapies depending on our clients needs and we believe this makes the services very different from traditional talking therapies available today. Being a Grantham based counselling service we are able to support local people in the Lincolnshire area. In addition to this we also run a number of groups that help and support individual development such as our men's personal development group and our recently launched “talking sex” process group specifically aimed at those exploring either addition or their own identity. Life in Action provides support to individuals, families and couples in counselling, creative therapy and NLP. We also offer individual assessment profiling to better understand your personality.

What do you love most about your job?

I work with a wide range of people on a daily basis. Those who are prepared for some challenge and work through their issues make significant changes to how they feel. I am proud to be part of that change in the people I work with.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have been practicing as a therapist for over 20 years in various fields. I later specialised in psychotherapy and became BACP accredited. I then went on to work with couples, families and young people. My desire to work for myself came one day when working in a service as a counsellor. I was limited to offering only 6 sessions and I knew the clients needed so much more. Working for myself allows me to work with the client in a pace that is right for them.

Why should our clients choose you?

We are a local counselling service who offers something different from traditional talking therapy. Not only do we integrate a range of approaches to best help each client, we also offer a full range of assessments that help us identify the real issues clients face. We use a selection of some of the most widely used, researched and tested personality tests. We are the only centre in Grantham that offers this. We can provide you with a full report on the findings that helps you understand the way you may be feeling and more importantly the reason why.

This service can help clients with their recovery at a faster rate than traditional talking therapy. As we integrate this in to the work we believe our rate of change is higher than those not using this method.

Our approach to therapy comes from the psychodynamic modality. this means in the main we are looking at the subconscious behaviours of the personality. We then take the unconscious behaviours, thoughts and feelings and help to bring these in to the conscious mind. This allows individuals to make significant change.

Working with couples, families and young people we are able to fully understand the dynamics of the family set up and in particular how issues may affect the individuals.

Counselling FAQs

Your expert Counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.

At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained Counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The Counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.

Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:

  • Face to face session

  • Group session

  • Phone session

  • Email session

  • Online through live chat services or video conferencing software

You may be offered a single session of Counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.

It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your Counsellor.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local Counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.

You could look for Counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.

Before you choose a Counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.

You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.

Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:

  • Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.

  • Physical health conditions such as infertility.

  • Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.

  • Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.

  • Sexual identity issues.

  • Divorce.

  • Redundancy and work issues.

  • Phobias and fears.

Absolutely! Many Counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
