Hi I'm Carrie, a fully qualified and BACP registered psychotherapeutic Gestalt General snd Medical Counsellor. Gestalt is a form of Psychotherapy that works through clients' issues in the present rather than the past, the triggers causing these issues and how to manage them going forward. It's an extremely empathic and warm form of therapy and has a softer approach than some other therapeutic modalities. I've been told my manner is very warm, empathic and compassionate. My aim is to offer you the time, space and understanding to be seen and heard. The plus point is that I don't know anyone else involved and likely never will. I'm here for YOU and YOU alone without any motives or judgements. I'm here to listen to you fully and be open to you sharing whatever is on your mind. I adapt my approach to each individual client and am not hesitant to try something new, especially at the request of a client. Some of the techniques I use are Sand Tray Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, etc. Some of the general issues I support clients with are: - anxiety - depression - worries around physical/sexual relationships - physical/sexual/coercive abuse - sexuality/identity - financial and/or work-related concerns - childhood/adult trauma - bereavement/grief/loss (people/animals) - grief/loss (losing a part of yourself due to illness/surgery) - bullying/harassment - low self-esteem - body dysmorphia/body image - end of life counselling - gender dysphoria/sexuality - pregnancy/childbirth/post-partum depression - infertility/miscarriage - jealous tendencies - separation/divorce - phobias I'm affiliated with the NHS within the Gastro-Colorectal field. Clients I see have encountered a diverse range of medical, physical and psychological issues including: - fear of upcoming surgery - living with Bowel Disease, e.g. Colitis, Crohn's, IBS, etc. - chronic illness - long-COVID - cancer diagnoses - disability - chronic pain/fatigue - worries around body image (post-surgery, due to medication, etc) - living with an ostomy (ileostomy/ colostomy/urostomy) - dynamics in the immediate family (due to surgery or illness) - pre-/post-surgical uncertainties By reaching out for help you've made a really important first move. Let me now help you through the rest of this process to allow you to get to a place where you're truly able to manage better.

What do you love most about your job?

Ok - cliches coming up now!

I love being a Psychotherapist because I have found no better way to do work that is meaningful and transformative for others.

If you enjoy working with people and helping them achieve their full potential as I do, then this job can be extremely rewarding. Whilst we'll often face challenges, seeing clients make real progress and work towards their goals is something really wonderful. You see someone's ability to move forward and change right in front of you. It's very humbling.

What inspired you to start your own business?

When working for Organisations and Institutions as I did, they would only allocate a certain amount of clients per therapist. I didn't feel this was fair to the clients who were waiting a long time to begin sessions.

I made the decision to move away from this and go into Private Practice so I was able to see more clients on a weekly (day and a couple of evenings) basis. My Practice has grown since then, mainly via word of mouth, and I feel less bound and able to offer more of myself to my clients.

Why should our clients choose you?

As a Humanistic/Gestalt therapist, my approach is different to others. As well as metaphorically holding, hearing and seeing my client as a whole and working through difficult issues/fears/worries, I'm not just a passive presence. I'm also human and when I hear certain stories/background, it affects me like any other person. As a therapist I'm there to help a client understand, work through and manage going forward but if a client looks like they need a hug, I'll offer one. If a client is nearing the end of a session and is very emotional, I won't call time and send them on their way. My role is to make sure that when a client leaves our session, they are in a place where they can regain composure and be ok. Someone once said to me: Well you get paid for doing this job so you have to show you care. They were only partly right. Yes, I get paid to do this job and I worked hard to get where I am now, but I do in fact care greatly about the welfare of all my clients.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I offer in-person sessions at my Practice in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire as well as sessions remotely via Zoom.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Although I'm no longer doing this, during the Pandemic I made sure that both mine and my clients' chairs were a little over 2m apart. I wiped down the chairs and tables before and after sessions. A box of masks were also in reach. That said, my in-person sessions were switched to online sessions until things were able to go back to 'normal'.
