Hello! I`m Simon, and experienced and accomplished tutor in maths and the sciences (biology, chemistry and physics). I hold a PhD in structural biophysics/biochemistry, plus I have an honours degree in biochemistry and a masters in clinical chemistry. I also have eighteen years of experience working in clinical biochemistry laboratories within the NHS. This encompassed various roles and duties, including producing analytical results to help diagnose and manage patients, troubleshooting and problem-solving, discussion of patients with clinical staff, management and supervision of laboratory staff and research and development work. More recently, I also have considerable experience working in the pharmaceutical industry as a scientist. I have over six years` experience working as a self-employed tutor in the sciences and maths at all levels. I have a track record of inspiring my students in the subjects I tutor, consistently helping them to much better understand these subjects and achieve or exceed their hopes and expectations. I have numerous happy clients who would testify to this! My approach is understanding students and establishing a rapport with students, which I tend to do quite easily. Obviously, different students have different abilities, personalities, strengths and weaknesses. Therefore I offer a bespoke service and tutorials are carried out in a relaxed atmosphere, where I will involve students in the session rather than just talking at them, giving friendly encouragement throughout. I also make extensive and effective use of various illustrative material and exercises (including past and mock exam papers, for those preparing for upcoming exams). I have a demonstrable track record of helping students achieve their full potential at all levels at in the subjects I tutor. I have had some wonderful feedback, of which I am very proud - see my links under the links tab - and most of my work in recent years has been from recommendations and word-of-mouth, which I think speaks for itself. I LOVE tutoring, both because of some of the lovely people I meet along the way, and due to the fact that I demonstrably make a difference.
It's a combination meeting all sorts of wonderful people, being able to do something that allows me to draw on my passion in the wonderful subjects I tutor and the fact that I am darned good at it!
Frankly, I wanted the freedom offered by being my own boss, and the ability to have a direct relationship with the people, for whom I am providing a service.
Because I always go the extra mile for my clients, and I am a very good tutor. I am comparatively new to Bark so no reviews at time of writing, but there are reviews on the webpages under my links tab, where you will see that I have a lot of glowing reviews. Note that most of my new clients in recent years have been recruited as a result of recommendations and word of mouth. What more can I say?
Yes. Usually via Skype or Zoom, but happy with any available platform of my clients' choosing.
During this pandemic hiatus, the great majority of my tutorial sessions have been online. I had one client who held out for face-to-face, so I made sure we were both wearing masks and adhering to social distance guidelines. I will continue to be mindful of official guidance, though as of 1st June 2021, I have had both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
