FAQ

How do I check my Debt Collector's credentials?

Debt recovery specialists are typically members of the Credit Services Association (CSA) and fully authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Before you choose a debt collector, remember to read customer testimonials on their website. If they don't have one, ask for the contact details of past clients to ask them yourself.

You can also read customer reviews on their Bark profile.

How do I choose a Debt Recovery Expert?

There are a number of factors that are worth considering when choosing your debt collection expert. These include:

  • Knowledge of industry - Every industry is different from the next with varying challenges and intricacies when it comes to contracts and invoicing. Knowing these variations can make a massive difference when it comes to successfully collecting money.

  • Research - Whilst trading time is not directly correlated to success it can be a good indicator of how successful your expert is and how much experience they have of collecting payments from difficult customers. Take a look at their testimonials, success stories and social media profiles to gauge what others thought about their services.

  • Accreditations - It is wise to check for associations and affiliations with the leading industrial bodies such as the Credit Services Association. It's also worth seeing if they are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

  • Fees - Different debt collection agencies charge different fees for their services. Some will require an upfront payment whilst others will charge a success-based fee. You will want to know exactly what the fee is and how it is paid, especially if your case needs to be escalated to the legal process.

  • Collection methods - Different debt collection agencies favour different methods of recovery. Some will opt for mediation over court proceedings, using their knowledge and reputation to bring positive conclusions to often complex cases pre-legally whilst preserving customer relationships. Others will use a more aggressive approach to collect the payment.

  • Progress tracking - Find out if the debt collection agency offers a portal service where you will be able to log in and track their progress, and if there is a dedicated point of contact who can assist with your enquiries.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local debt collectors listed will give you a reliable and professional service.

What is the difference between a Bailiff and a Debt Collector?

Bailiffs are agents instructed to retrieve debts on behalf of either a creditor or the courts. The biggest and most important difference between debt collectors and bailiffs is that a debt collector has no special legal powers to collect a debt, whereas a bailiff does.

What are the advantages of hiring a Debt Collector?

A debt collection expert can provide a variety of services, including:

  • Experience - The number one benefit of using a debt collector for debt recovery is their experience and knowledge in their field. As a business owner, you may not have any experience or prior knowledge, or even know where to start with handling a late payment.
  • Advice - When you hire a debt recovery specialist, the advice they give you is part of their service. A debt collector will be able to advise you on what is, and what is not, a good path to take if the process goes to court.
  • Results - Debt collectors typically earn their fees from the debt they collect for you. This means that any fees they earn hinge on them being successful with their cases. You are unlikely to hire a debt collector who doesn’t want to work for nothing which makes many debt collectors extremely good at their jobs.
  • Quick Recovery - Having a debt collector calling you or communicating with you in other ways is unnerving for anyone, especially if that agent starts threatening to take your debtor to court. A debtor who knows they owe someone money is more likely to try and reach a beneficial solution for all parties involved, rather than spend time and more money going through the court system.
  • Documentation - Debt collection agencies make notes about everything during a debt collection process. Records are kept and this documentation is fully available to help you prove your claim should you need to go to court.

Global Corporate Solutions

We are a niche director-led team of debt recovery, litigation, enforcement and insolvency professionals, offering No Win No Fee debt recovery solutions, outright debt purchase options and free-of-charge business debt recovery to a wide range of private, corporate and institutional clients across England and Wales. Regular clients include private schools, universities, building suppliers, equipment hire firms, insolvency practitioners, accountants, landlords and individuals with often unique debt recovery requirements. We have been successfully operating for many years and have an impressive track record in both the public and private sector. Unlike most other firms, we offer a genuine No Win No Fee service, which importantly includes all costs that may be incurred during the progress of your matter. If we do not recover money, we write off every single penny of our time and incurred costs (subject to standard T's&C's). Our commission rates vary depending upon the case we're instructed upon, and can be as low as 5%. We do not charge any upfront costs or administration fees, and some business-to-business cases can be handled completely free of charge! Our experience guides us as to whether County, High Court or alternative proceedings are required (such as Statutory Demand, Insolvency proceedings, in-person visits etc..); and after a quick assessment of the debt and the debtor we can advise you as to the most appropriate route to take. If you already have a Judgment, we can utilise the most efficient method of enforcement, even where others have failed. Being a smaller firm, we do not have fixed commission rates; we work with each individual client to set a commission that is fair for the client, but also represents the often considerable financial risk we take in pursuing cases. In many cases we are able to offer you a completely free service, with the debtor business forced to pay our costs. All of our services are in-house, so whether you need a Letter Before Action, Court Proceedings, High Court Enforcement, Bankruptcy/Winding Up Petitions, Charging Orders or anything in-between, we can handle it with ease. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss our services with you; and will always aim to match or beat any like for like quote you may receive from another firm. Further, if you do engage another firm but end up getting nowhere, feel free to reach out at a later date, as our team can often help where others have failed. We hope to be speaking to you soon; but for more information please visit our website at: www.globalcorporate.uk

What do you love most about your job?

The feeling of a job well done. It's fantastic when I'm able to tell my clients that we've recovered what they are rightfully owed. For some clients, the money they are owed is significant and makes a massive difference; I'm glad to be able to help those people to move on and leave the stress behind. Debt collectors get a bad reputation, but we really do have a positive impact on people who genuinely need our help.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After obtaining my degree, I was keen to work for myself and not get stuck in a typical law firm with all of the office politics and formality that goes with it. I wanted to do my own thing, deal directly with my clients, and charge fees that were fair. The flexibility of being a small business owner allows me to really help people, giving a personal service and making a genuine difference.

Why should our clients choose you?

If you want honest, straightforward and sensible advice, combined with robust action to recover what you're rightfully owed, then speak to me.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We work for clients across the UK and internationally; the nature of our work means that we primarily work remotely and online. We have enforcement agents across England and Wales, and partnerships that span the globe. Unfortunately we do not currently operate in Scotland, due to its legal system.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We liaise with our clients either over the telephone, by email or occasionally via Teams/Zoom etc.. It is extremely rare that we need to physically meet with our clients, but if a meeting is needed then all necessary Covid-19 precautions are followed as required.

For the first time in the last 7 years I spoke to a professional who WAS LISTENING to me so to best understand - in the short time available - what is going on and why I need to take my ex-solicitor to court. It would feel right to have GoLegal help me with the professional negligence case, if time limitations allow to do so. Pity I did not speak to this Firm, months ago. Wow, they know what they are doing... Conversation ended on such a positive note, thank you K. from GoLegal, thank you very much.
