‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I am an enthusiastic and passionate teacher of British Sign Language. I have taught children and adults, both secularly and in a voluntary capacity, up to and including Signature Level 1. I like to use various methods when I'm teaching, such as audio-lingual, total physical response and you'll learn to juggle too! I offer two different courses - Monday evenings between 6pm and 8pm I offer a full Signature Accredited BSL (British Sign Language) Level One course through Palm Deaf (http://palmdeaf.co.uk). This is currently scheduled to start in November so please contact them for payment details. Their courses are full Level One courses with exams. Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 6:55pm and 7pm and 7:55pm. Both of the Tuesday evening courses are an Introduction to British Sign Language. Although this is just an introduction into British Sign Language (BSL), the courses cover the linguistical and grammatical aspects of BSL as well as being fun and educational. You will start with the basics such as the alphabet and numbers and by the end of the 12 weeks will have the knowledge to have basic conversations. These sessions cost £7.50 per person and you only pay for the lessons you attend. There are no contract and no exams.

What do you love most about your job?

I love teaching and have worked in education for many years. I love seeing people learn new things and sharing my love of the language and what I have learnt over the years. British Sign Language (BSL) is such a rich, diverse and beautiful language and I love teaching it.

What inspired you to start your own business?

LOCKDOWN! Seriously though, I've been involved with teaching sign language over the last 20 years in classes in Wales and England. Just thought it would be great to trial online lessons and see what happens. I've really enjoyed working alongside Palm Deaf (http://palmdeaf.co.uk) and my private classes over the last 2 years online.

Why should our clients choose you?

I will take the time to explain why I use certain signs and provide some interesting and effective methods to help you learn. I offer a lot of support in the form of videos, packs and guidance through the lessons. I try to make the lessons fun and engaging and am keen to teach sign language.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I provide all services online via video conferencing software, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

None needed as all lessons are online. However, if I was to offer classes then I would limit the numbers and provide hand sanitiser, etc.

Lorraine George has been absolutely amazing. When I started my new job that needed BSL I was so stressed and confused. When Lorraine started teaching me, my BSL improved massively and so did my confidence. Every lesson is fun and so knowledgeable. I can't thank Lorraine enough, thanks for her I passed my level 1 and also made my job alot easier.

Absolutely fantastic communication nothing is too much trouble! This amazing lady is helping teach a friend and her husband BSL after she lost the ability to communicate through medical complications. When I first got in touch and explained the situation that I would like to set up and pay for some BSL lessons for my friend and her husband to help give her back her voice Lorraine was genuinely interested in helping out and using her skills to better the lives of others. The communication between all parties involved has been excellent keeping me up to date with how their lessons are going and when they’re booked in so I know they’ve been used and so I can pay for extra if needed. She has been patient and understanding and been incredibly flexible to allow for optimal learning. With the nature of my friends condition she can suffer chronic fatigue and Lorraine has been excellent at accommodating her needs with a genuine outlook to help and teach. 20/10 recommend
