Finding reliable gardeners

What horticultural services are available?

Think turfing, lawn mowing, hedge trimming, planting, patio cleaning and garden clearance. If you want your outdoor space maintained and kept looking beautiful year round, we recommend weekly or monthly visits from your gardener. Alternatively, if you simply want to give your garden a thorough clear-out before you turn your own green fingers to the plants over the summer months, book a gardener for help with garden clearance in the spring. Perhaps you have an allotment you’d like some assistance with and advice on? Book a couple of sessions with a gardener to get you going for the upcoming season. They can tell you which veggies to plant, what your soil is good for and how much pruning to do.

Bark’s gardeners have experience working for families, working adults and retired couples. So, whether your urban garden is in need of some TLC, needs child-proofing, dog-proofing or simply to be kept under control, there are professionals who can look after these tasks for you.

Enjoy your city garden

As well as lack of expertise and experience, busy schedules and seasonality can restrict how much time you spend keeping on top of your garden. But as we Brits know best of all – the minute the sun appears, we like to be able to enjoy it. Hiring a professional gardener makes sure that your garden is kept under control, enabling you to take full advantage of a welcoming outdoor area whenever the good weather arrives.

A garden is a sanctuary in the urban jungle. As a lucky Londoner with workable outdoor space, you can make the most of it with the help of a professional. That way you can focus on enjoying your free time in your garden.

What can a gardener offer me?

Tending to your outdoor spaces can be daunting when it’s not something you do every day. Bark’s gardeners know the correct tools to use, which weeds to pull up and what greenery thrives in London’s microclimate. Look out for any diplomas and certificates on their profile, such as those awarded by BTEC, LANTRA and City & Guilds. Or ask them about their expertise when you contact your shortlisted gardeners.

Much does a Gardener near me cost?

On average, a Gardener in London will charge between £15 – £20 per hour. Although, this is variable depending on different factors, such as your location and potentially the size of your garden.

What made you decide to become a gardener?

In a nutshell, love of the outdoors and the amount of satisfaction gardening gives me. I couldn’t spend 9-5 of each day at a desk in an office – I’m a very active person, I like physical work and I’m passionate about nature. Due to the ups and downs of British weather, enjoyment of the outdoors is essential as a gardener. While gardening might appeal to many over the summer months, I have no doubt that most people would hate the dark early mornings and bitterly cold/wet days we endure throughout the rest of the year! Working as a gardener has allowed me to earn money doing something that’s good for my physical and mental health. Plus, from a business perspective, luckily gardeners are in high demand across London.

What experience and qualifications do you have?

I took Maintenance Gardener (Level 1) at Capel College then later went on to complete Technical Horticulture and Professional Landscaping (Level 2). I started as a work experience student helping the caretaking team at Southwark Park, employed by Southwark Council. I really enjoyed the work so returned during college holidays. I have since set up a mobile gardening business with a friend from college and this is what fills my time.

What’s your biggest selling point?

I offer a mobile gardening service, which means I have all the equipment I need to do most gardening tasks. I can also drive to clients and I don’t need any storage space in their garden. As an independent business I’m in control of my client base and working hours. I manage everything so there’s no middle man and you’ll always be visited by the same two people (excluding exceptional circumstances when illness or weather prevents business running as normal).
