Understanding your Derby service estimate

When you receive a quote from a garden maintenance expert, it usually covers the core requirements of the job:

  • Professional expertise: Skilled labour for tasks like pruning, mowing, or planting.

  • Fuel and machinery: Use of commercial-grade lawnmowers, strimmers, and shears.

  • Site preparation: Brief assessment and preparation of the work area.

Note that large items like topsoil, mulch, or decorative plants are usually billed separately from the hourly labour rate.

Professional standards for Derby gardeners

  • Certifications: For high-end landscaping, ask if they have RHS horticultural training or similar verified experience.

  • Environmental Safety: Ensure they have a valid Waste Carrier Licence to legally remove debris from your property.

  • Liability: A reputable garden maintenance expert will always carry Public Liability Insurance to cover any accidental damage during the maintenance process.

Key questions to ask your garden maintenance expert

  1. Do you have RHS qualifications or similar experience for this specific task?

  2. Does your quote include basic clean-up and travel to Derby?

  3. Do you have a valid Waste Carrier Licence and Public Liability Insurance?

  4. Are materials like plants or seeds included in this estimate?

What do you love most about your job?

Gardening is a way of making meaning out of our lives. Being in the garden and feeling a profound connection to the land affords us the opportunity to focus on beauty and inspires us to experience feelings of awe, gratitude, and abundance.

Gardening Improves Relationships and Compassion. Research shows that people who spend extended lengths of time around plants tend to have better relationships with others. “This is due to measurable increases in feelings of compassion; another effect of exposure to ornamental plants. Studies have shown that people who spend more time around plants are much more likely to try and help others, and often have more advanced social relationships.

People who care for nature are more likely to care for others, reaching out to their peers and forming shared bonds resulting from their common interests. Extended exposure to nature and wildlife increases people’s compassion for each other as it increases people’s compassion for the environment in which they live. In short, being around plants can help to improve relationships between people and increase their concern and empathy toward others.”

What inspired you to start your own business?

Inspiration comes from the ability to be as creative as you want to be and show people something they potentially have never seen before. For a lot of people, it is about money, fame, freedom and all of that is absolutely realistic and fantastic, but i mostly do it for the excitement of being creative and thinking on my own.

When you work for someone else, you are helping them with their own vision. If you are a true entrepreneur, that is all it takes to motivate you to have your own vision and make it a reality. Having a white board in front of you with a team of people that you threw together, trying to make it in a competitive world, makes it all more fun.

I think for me, on top of creativity, it is the ability to stay competitive

Why should our clients choose you?

When a client asks, "Why should we hire you over everyone else?" my answer is simple: "Don't ask me, ask our clients.
I tell prospective clients that if they prioritize good work, exceptional service, new ideas, and a long-term relationship, then we're the team for them.
