I help committed people live their best possible life. In particular I work with people seeking clarity of life direction. I have a specialism in those who have been awoken to the brevity of life through a difficult diagnosis or a close loss, but I also work with executive management and business owners to shape their business or career strategy. To be quite clear - I'm a coach, rather than a counsellor or therapist.

I provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to adults, children and young people. This specialist psychotherapy has a better evidence base than any other therapeutic approach for helping people resolve their difficulties related to anxiety and low mood; however, it is also helpful for a wide range of other emotional and mental health problems. Therapeutic interventions will start with an assessment session, followed by individual sessions at a frequency to be agreed.

I am a Mental Health Nurse and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) therapist with 15 years' experience in counselling and psychotherapy. I am based centrally in Harrogate and am an accredited member of the BABCP. I am a specialist in Depression and Anxiety, including Phobias (high-spec VR is available), Insomnia, Trauma, Traumatic Grief, Worry (GAD), OCD, Self-esteem, Social & Performance Anxieties, Health Anxiety, Eating Disorders, and Panic.
I am a private therapist with over 12 years experience working within Primary Care GP practices, Employee Assisted Therapy within a Hospital and also Bereavement Therapy within a Hospice. Through personal life experiences I believe we are all unique and have deep intuitive survival instincts. Sometimes life throws us off balance leaving us feeling anxious, depressed unable to cope. I provide a safe confidential and non judgmental short or long term telephone therapy service where clients can talk through their issues, sometimes family can be too close or maybe part of the issue. I can help clients to manage their anxiety and depressive symptoms and develop better coping strategies so they can take back control of their lives.
The constant learning I get from working with clients and helping them to get relief from anxiety and depressive symptoms
Having worked for a short term IAPT service provider of therapy for 12 years and the frustration at the sometimes long waiting times I see clients having to wait. Also as private therapist I am not bound or restricted so much by commisioners funding policies.
I am a empathetic therapist having experienced my own traumatic life experiences resulting in high level anxiety symptoms for many years on and off. Through a mixture of some therapy, medication and support I recovered enough to develop some real healthy coping strategies and am now doing a job I love where if I can help someone else to recover from their symptoms and stresses then that can only be a good thing. Through my own mental health nursing experience in the past and therapeutic learning and experience through the years I feel I have good therapeutic knowledge and an ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients supporting them in their goals.
Whilst we still have restrictions in providing face to face therapy then I can provide telephone therapy or if needed then online therapy through Zoom.
Not applicable due to no face to face contact at present.
How much does Counselling cost?
Your expert Counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.
What should I expect from my Counselling session?
At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained Counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The Counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.
Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:
Face to face session
Group session
Phone session
Email session
Online through live chat services or video conferencing software
You may be offered a single session of Counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your Counsellor.
You can be confident that any of the Bark local Counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.
What should I look for when booking a Counselling session?
You could look for Counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.
Before you choose a Counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.
You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.
What issues can a Counsellor help with?
Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.
Physical health conditions such as infertility.
Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.
Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.
Sexual identity issues.
Divorce.
Redundancy and work issues.
Phobias and fears.
Can I get a Counselling Service online?
Absolutely! Many Counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
