Patricia Lyon Counselling & Psychotherapy

East Renfrewshire

Confidential counselling with an experienced MSc qualified psychotherapist and counsellor. I work with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, trauma. UKCP accredited . Individuals counselling - I provide supportive, client led work to support you to work through your worries and issues allowing the time for you to decide what you might want to change, stay the same or think differently about. It can be hard to make that first step to talk about yourself so I provide a caring, understanding environment where you are in control of the pace. I invite you to come for a first session to decide if I am a 'good fit' for you. Couples counselling - your most important relationship can be a minefield trying to navigate what can become an emotional rollercoaster. I facilitate the space for you to talk to each other with professional input to help you understand where each other is coming from and find a way to move forward. Trusting again; repairing hurt or re-connecting are all very common issues that many couples face. I encourage you to come sooner than later and make a start to understanding each other better.

What do you love most about your job?

I get great job satisfaction from helping clients to identify, work on and sort out issues that they have felt distressed or stuck by.I listen to your point of view and work to get an understanding of your perspective in the moment and your needs going forward.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I loved the thought of having my own business as it gives me more flexibility to work round the needs of clients e.g. shift work etc.

It allows me to offer clients an initial session and allow you to decide if I'm someone you feel you can work with going forward.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am a highly qualified professional with thousands of hours of client experience dealing with many different issues.
I have had good feedback from men, women, children and young people who find my ability to listen and meet you where you are very reassuring safe.
I am registered with UKCP (United Kingdom of Counselling & Psychotherapy) which ensures I keep my training up to date and adhere their thorough Code of Ethics.
I seek regular supervision, which is a requirement of UKCP. Supervision in the counselling context means the I confidentially talk about the themes that emerge in my work (keeping client names private). This allows due diligence in my practice and ensures high ethical standards.

Counselling FAQs

Your expert Counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.

At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained Counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The Counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.

Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:

  • Face to face session

  • Group session

  • Phone session

  • Email session

  • Online through live chat services or video conferencing software

You may be offered a single session of Counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.

It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your Counsellor.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local Counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.

You could look for Counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.

Before you choose a Counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.

You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.

Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:

  • Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.

  • Physical health conditions such as infertility.

  • Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.

  • Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.

  • Sexual identity issues.

  • Divorce.

  • Redundancy and work issues.

  • Phobias and fears.

Absolutely! Many Counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
