‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I have been a counsellor in Exeter for over seven years now, having completed an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I've spent most of that time working as a volunteer counsellor for the NHS within their Depression & Anxiety Service. As such, I specialise in working with depression, anxiety and stress. That said, in my experience, whilst depression and anxiety are common, the reasons why people feel this way can be extremely varied and so I've worked with many different people with many different presenting problems. Nobody should feel their issue is too big or too small. My aim in working with clients is to provide an environment in which you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings, however difficult they may be. I am non-judgemental, honest (‘congruent’ in counsellor-speak) and empathetic. I am a very warm and open person and the fact that I genuinely care about people always comes across. The relationship we develop can help you learn and reflect about your relationships outside of therapy including your relationship with yourself. It is important therefore that I am honest with you and that you feel able to trust and be real with me too. As with any relationship, this can bring challenges, but it is through challenges that we can grow as people, learn about ourselves and others, have healthier relationships with ourselves and others, work through problems and lessen our pain or distress There are many examples of things people bring to counselling either as an issue in and of themselves or things that trigger other issues, such as: - Depression - Bereavement - Anxiety - Loss - Stress - Work difficulties - Low self-esteem - Exam stresses - Anger - Big life changes - Isolation - LGBTX - Sleep issues - BDSM - Suicidal ideation - Relationship difficulties/breakdown - Addiction(s) - Infidelity - PTSD - Trauma - OCD - Rape - Eating disorders - Childhood abuse - Hoarding disorder - Childhood difficulties - Post-natal depression - Emotional abuse - Phobias - Sexual abuse - Insecurity - Physical abuse - Dependency issues - Domestic violence - Co-dependency issues - Bullying Whatever your situation I encourage you to contact me and see if I am the right counsellor for you.

What do you love most about your job?

I love working with people to help them learn more about themselves, to take charge of their own lives and to, in time, live more fulfilling and happier lives. It is truly a privilege to hear every single client's life story and I really enjoy the work I do with them.

I also love the variety of different people I meet. Because we all have mental health and we all go through difficult things, it means I meet such a wide array of people from all different walks of life.

What inspired you to start your own business?

When my paid contract with the Assertive Homeless Outreach Team came to an end, I decided to take the plunge and try out self-employment. After all, I had worked as counsellor for years just in the voluntary sector rather than private practice. It was one of the best (and sometimes scariest) decisions I ever made and I am so glad life conspired to give me that push to do it. I absolutely love what I do.

Why should our clients choose you?

My aim in working with clients is to provide an environment in which you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings, however difficult they may be. I am non-judgemental, honest (‘congruent’ in counsellor-speak) and empathetic. I am a very warm and open person and the fact that I genuinely care about people always comes across.

My former clients have always given me great feedback about how I've helped them and how their lives are now better for having seen me for counselling.
