I have been a counsellor in Exeter for over seven years now, having completed an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I've spent most of that time working as a volunteer counsellor for the NHS within their Depression & Anxiety Service.

Taking the step to go to therapy felt like it took me months maybe years. I looked through various therapists in Exeter and settled on Sue because I thought “she looks nice”. I went with my gut instinct and I’m so glad I did. Just completed 6 months of therapy with Sue, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Everything a therapist should be, and more. Funny, real, understanding, engaging. I looked forward to every session and the feeling of lightness and strength that I left with. Highly recommend. Thank you. More...

Counselling
With Sue's help I have been able to work through a really difficult time in my life and I will always be grateful to her for that.
I wasn't sure what to expect from counselling but Sue put me at ease from the first session. She is a down to earth, friendly and knowledgeable counsellor who I would highly recommend to others

Therapist
Everyone needs to feel they can connect to their councellor otherwise it won’t work, doesn’t matter how hard you try. When I messsged Sue & we exchanged a few emails & I told her my worries etc, she was very very understansing, caring, she didn’t treat me as a client who shouldn’t be bothered with, she listened to me, she was honest, genuine & very accommodating to my physical needs. I felt after a while of talking that there was a connection, which is the most important thing in a therapeutic relationship & with the help of Sues’ help & her caring & gentle attitude & personality, I made the massive step to start councelling with her, which is a massive step for me but Sue made it possible & made it so much easier & although I am still very anxious, I feel less anxious now. So if you’re looking for a councellor, I would recommend emailing or phoning Sue & having a chat & I am sure you will feel listened & understood just like I did. So I 100% reccomend Sue. What do you love most about your job?
I love working with people to help them learn more about themselves, to take charge of their own lives and to, in time, live more fulfilling and happier lives. It is truly a privilege to hear every single client's life story and I really enjoy the work I do with them.
I also love the variety of different people I meet. Because we all have mental health and we all go through difficult things, it means I meet such a wide array of people from all different walks of life.
What inspired you to start your own business?
When my paid contract with the Assertive Homeless Outreach Team came to an end, I decided to take the plunge and try out self-employment. After all, I had worked as counsellor for years just in the voluntary sector rather than private practice. It was one of the best (and sometimes scariest) decisions I ever made and I am so glad life conspired to give me that push to do it. I absolutely love what I do.
Why should our clients choose you?
My aim in working with clients is to provide an environment in which you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings, however difficult they may be. I am non-judgemental, honest (‘congruent’ in counsellor-speak) and empathetic. I am a very warm and open person and the fact that I genuinely care about people always comes across.
My former clients have always given me great feedback about how I've helped them and how their lives are now better for having seen me for counselling.
