Hello. I’m Debs Barritt and my passion is helping people. I am motivated to assist people who are facing challenges and finding life difficult. With over 35 years of experience in supporting people, I have a heart for those who are facing the challenges that life can bring. My skills lie in listening, communicating, and empathising in a person-centred manner. I can help you discover additional coping skills so that you may live a happier and more fulfilled life.
I love it that two days are never the same. The best part is being able to help people of all ages, and from all walks of life, without judgement and with no barriers or obstacles getting in our way.
Coming from a broken home and a challenging adolescence, some significant people helped me in my time of need. I wanted to be able to help others by way of giving something back to society and the local community where I lived in South London at that time.
I am an excellent listener, able to show deep empathy to those facing different challenges in life, including mental health issues such as anxiety, stress, depression and suicidal feelings. I am able to help people feel at ease in my presence, whether it be in person, online (via Zoom), or by telephone.
I know what it is like to experience hardship. At one time in my life, I did not want to live. I am here as a living testimony to friends who cared. Nothing in life provides me with more happiness than being able to provide hope to others through my work with them and their trust in me.
I can provide counselling online (via Zoom), or by telephone, in addition to in-person sessions. Each session lasts for up to 50 minutes.
I closed my practice in March 2021 and re-opened in February 2024. In the meantime, I changed location. In order to keep clients safe, I use antibacterial hand gel, which is available for my clients. I also wear face-marks upon request, now Covid restrictions are lifted. I have spare face masks that clients can use, should they wish. I am always scrupulous about hygiene. I wash my hands between sessions, using soap and hot water. I ensure my clothes are clean and I am well groomed.
Water is available for clients, and this is refreshed and glasses cleaned between each session. I also began online practice during Covid, and have since enrolled on an Open University course to enhance my abilities to connect remotely.
