Capital Cuisine (Colin Gray Events and Catering)

Capital Cuisine’s event catering business (Colin Gray Events and Catering), cater for Weddings, Canapé receptions, awards dinners, cold buffets, hot fork buffets and bespoke event packages to suit individual needs and budgets. It is in these cost conscious times that we can make a difference - you tell us your budget and we will design a menu around it. We do big! Our biggest so far was for 1200 people in the Parc y Scarlets training venue to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Llanelli beating the all blacks, now that was a challenge! We also do small! Small intimate dinner parties or board room dinners is where we bring the restaurant to you! Marquees, stately homes, Castles and other venues all have provided a back drop for many an amazing experience for Capital Cuisine and our discerning clients. Formal sit down dinners, Canapé receptions, hot or cold buffets, hog roasts and carveries, curry bars and cheese tables, soup carts and chocolate fountains, fine wines and fully licensed bar, we have the solution to your every request.

What’s your signature dish?

For hot fork buffets we do an amazing lamb tagine, spicy giant cous cous, raita and griddled flatbread. Our canapé selection is an amazing selection of bite size tasty food - beetroot macaroons with goats cheese mouse, chicken liver parfait on toasted brioche and spiced pear chutney, home cured beetroot gravadlax on sameshi rice with pickled ginger and wasabi dip - to name a few. Sit down dinners feature a vast array of unctuous flavours - 6 hour braised featherblade of Welsh beef, slow cooked pork belly with a honey and 5 spice glaze and finishing with warm chocolate fondant or a zingy citrus tarte with bitter chocolate truffle - some of my favourite things!

How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?

If you have specific food and beverage requirements we are experts in replicating your ideas into bespoke menus, matching food with great wines from across the globe. From breakfast meetings, business lunches, conferences, awards dinners, weddings and a host of other exciting reasons to celebrate, we have the solution. Put your trust in Colin Gray Catering and Events and have a truly memorable experience for all the right reasons!

What do you love most about your job?

Seeing people enjoying good food, the success of an event after months of preparation and planning and a well deserved glass of red afterwards!

What inspired you to start your own business?

To bring restaurant quality food to events
Capital Cuisine have been at the cutting edge of pop-up restaurants for some 13 odd years, even before ‘pop-ups’ were thought of and someone made them trendy!

Why should our clients choose you?

For food quality and point of difference
We have been putting a huge sit down restaurant at the Hay festival for all this time and it goes from strength to strength each year, quickly followed was the main and only sit down restaurant at the National Eisteddfod, where we now have some 300 seats plus a coffee shop and 100 seat function room – all of this in massive marquees in a field complete with fully functioning kitchen marquee with cookers, refrigerated storage and even dishwashers! A spell at the Royal Welsh Show for the last 4 years has also seen us ‘popping up’ in Builth Wells with similar restaurants. We pride ourselves on being the leading player in this field (excuse the pun!) and are always looking for new opportunities to showcase Welsh produce to the wider foodie audience, so if you are looking to upgrade your catering offer please get in touch to discuss your event or fixed venue in more detail.

Catering FAQs

Expand all

Your expert caterer will be able to advise you on the most suitable menus and service.

It is important to know the following before deciding on a catering company:

  • Event Specialists - Many caterers handle certain types of events on a regular basis, such as weddings and corporate events.

  • Different cuisines - Caterers might specialise in different kinds of cuisine. Some caterers may provide a fine dining experience while others excel at barbecues that suit company picnics.

  • Special requirements - If you have special requirements for the food or a specific menu in mind make sure your caterer is happy to meet those requirements.

  • Venue - Your gathering might be taking place at someone’s home, a venue or outdoors. It can be helpful if your caterer has worked at the venue before.

  • Tastings - Ask for a tasting to make sure the food is of a high standard. Most caterers will prepare one for you at no charge, allowing you to assess the quality of their cooking before you hire them.

You could look for caterers with a foundation degree, higher national diploma or degree in Professional Cookery and Culinary Arts.

Before you choose a caterer, you could read testimonials and see pictures of their food on their website.

You could also look at their profile page on Bark and read reviews from past customers, too.
