My name is Rachael and I am a Makeup Artist, Makeup Tutor, Beauty writer and YouTube content creator based in Barnsley – although I am more than happy to provide makeup artistry both anywhere in the UK and internationally. I gained my makeup artistry diploma from the Beauty Academy in 2012 before being offered a job and further training at Illamasqua. I have also trained under the guidance of Val Garland and Luis Casco through the Val Garland School of Makeup, P Louise Makeup Academy, and the White Rose School of Beauty in my hometown. Further to this, I am also self-taught in SFX makeup. I am fully insured and a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology. My makeup work has been featured in publications both in the UK and globally including; Sheffield Telegraph, Daily Mail’s Mail Online, Daily Express, Mancunian Matters, Barnsley Chronicle, Manchester Evening News, Yorkshire Evening Post, The Star, Detroit Newstime, Yan News Vietnam and EMGN – I am most recognised for my Halloween and special effects makeovers. I provide makeovers for special occasions such as evenings out, Bridal makeup and also special effects and Halloween makeup.

What do you love most about your job?

Being able to help a client gain confidence is one of the biggest joys about my job. Today, women in particular are put under such pressure to look a certain way and it's not an attainable goal. Helping my clients to enhance their natural beauty and teaching them how to apply their makeup to enhance rather than hide their features is so important to me, and there's nothing nicer than having a client absolutely beaming at how beautiful they look and feel after their makeover.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After being brought up in a family business, it was always a goal of mine to own my own business and build my own empire. I always had a creative streak and was always particularly inspired by makeup artistry, so I enrolled to train as a makeup artist and also studied skincare so that I could understand my clients needs. I have a drive to work for myself and create something of my own making, so starting my own business in the field I'm most passionate about was a natural progression for me.

Why should our clients choose you?

I pride myself in a bespoke service. I am a boutique business and like to focus on the quality of my clients rather than the quality. Operating as a boutique business means that I can spend the time with my clients that they deserve to perfect their beautiful makeup and also provide them a relaxing, professional experience within a gorgeous purpose built daylight studio.

I am globally recognised for my work and have appeared in both national and international press.

Some brides choose to apply their own makeup for their wedding. However, many prefer to have their makeup professionally applied to ensure that it looks perfect for their big day. Having your makeup professionally applied for your wedding also gives you that bit of pampering on your wedding day, allowing you to relax whilst an expert makes you look great.

Many brides wonder whether their hair or makeup should be done first on their wedding day. Ideally, you’ll have your hair styled first and your makeup applied afterwards. This is because the heat from the styling tools could cause your makeup to run. However, don’t worry if your schedule means that your makeup needs to be applied first. Hiring a professional wedding makeup artist and hairdresser will ensure that your hair and makeup both look perfect for your wedding, no matter which order they need to take place.

Ideally, you should have your makeup applied 1-2 hours before you need to set off for your wedding ceremony. You’ll ideally have your hair styled first, and then your makeup applied, leaving enough time to get changed into your dress before the ceremony. Most brides choose for their bridesmaids to have their hair and makeup done first, with the bride being last. This ensures that your hair and makeup last for as long as possible.
